Hello all

I'm busy looking into a trail bike for around R40 000, preferably less. Ideally I'm looking for something playful and poppy. I live in Port Elizabeth so I think 140mm travel will be the sweet spot, 150mm max.

All help and advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks

That's good money. Look in the classifieds for a deal on a Pascoe.

Edit: Giant Trance is always an option so too the Silverback Slider 1.

What size do you ride?

Saw the new Merida 120/140s are about now too. They look nice! (its like the 7.600 7.700 or something I dunno they have stupid model names).

Do you know what how much the scout 2 is going for? Seems like it will be a real trail shredder. The short stem, wide bar combo and 1x drivetrain straight out of the box are nice touches.

Spez Camber Comp Carbon has 110mm but its one helluva a trail bike when u add the mandatory dropper post.    ALl in for R38k or therea abouts

He'd be looking at the Stumpy in his chosen travel segment.

maybe the stumpy fsr expert with brain (the alu was under r40k, IIRC)

.

or maybe the spez enduro range - mmmm, should be one under  R40k

heres my experience about asking about trail bikes here, you can have bike you want so long as its a giant trance, and your right to freedom of speech may be exercised but only if you are talking about how great a giant trance is.

In the spirit of providing you with unbiased opinions, this is what I would get with that money:

You'd have to skimp on some of the components. In fact I'd got as far as to say that the frame is somewhat overpriced. But still, it's what I'd get anyway.

You are absolutely correct

Fact is you goto go a looooong way to find anything better.

But with 40k you got a few more options. The difference is you not looking for a fancy fancy on a Trance budget. And used there is plenty options... including a Giant Trance and Reign
