I just wish they'd allow bikes on the Gautrain...ergh.

Anyway, see you all there. I'll have a camera on my pip so hopefully I'll have a nice video to post here.

On the topic of parking, please park at Sandton City and do no use the Gautrain parking, Guatrain parking will cost you R100.

Thanks for the heads up.

I have to say I had a fun ride this morning. Weather was perfect, pace was right to get some speed downhill's and chill on the up hills.

I was worried about doing a tar ride on my MTB but I think many of the people on road bikes also wished they were on bikes with knobblies... Some of the road surfaces weren't great...

All in all looked like a great turn out and a big success. Well done to the organizers.

It was good fun out there, some challenging climbs, real leg burners (29er here). It was a real eye opener going through Alex, but great to see them smiling and cheering us along.

I found it a bit hair raising at the start, the bunch was so tightly packed, like a thousand-strong wobbly peloton. Lots of contact, skidding and a few falls. I eventually navigated my way through to the front and sat with the pace car until the end. I was in no mood to fall :)

There were a few douchbags up front antagonizing the Think Bike marshal for going so slow, which was really uncool, she was there to keep us safe while the rolling road block had time to stop traffic up ahead. Mob mentality took over and a whole bunch started giving her a go. So thanks to them for living up to the stereotype that cyclists are a-holes and best used as hood ornaments. What exactly did they hope to achieve by taking part in a ride in part meant to raise awareness, but then behave like that?

Other than that, it was a super ride.

It was fantastic, thanks to Catatonic Joe and friends who helped organise this .

Haha, Thanks Wyatt, I barely lifted a finger. Thanks goes to City of Joburg, the Freedom Ride Jozi guys from Linkd (especially my brother), Hollard, Juca, Qhubeka and the many other sponsors.

So far R32 000 has been donated to the freedom ride, every cent is going to Qhubeka, who are going to use that money to put disadvantaged people on bikes.

We had a great time out towing our twins on their half bikes. Yes Alex was a bit rough but what do you expect, plus the people at the side of the road made up for it. There were a few hills and one wrong turn, but it was well organised and enjoyable. Well done to all involved, will definitely do it again with the family.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the share Catatonic_Joe.

If you have not yet received the emails or are not aware, the 4th Freedom Ride will be taking place this Sunday!

It is a brand new route and riders will be taken from Sandton Gautrain Station through the northern suburbs of Joburg and into Yeoville and Hillbrow. From there we will head down Louis Botha and back into Sandton.

It is a 27km route, it is a social ride and not a race, and it is free! So bring everyone, family and friends and join us as we celebrate cycling in Johannesburg!

Please do register at www.freedomride.co.za so we have an idea of numbers

We already have over 2,000 registrations!

As there are no race numbers we ask to you please carry identification on you during the ride.
