That would be Mr Lemmer, long before ASG got involved.

Really - when?  It was a pro and 'licensed rider' tour 'till 3 years ago (even in the first year ASG did it).

Sadly from here on in we'll continue to engage on actual constructive event issues (timing, routes, etc).  People are free to choose - don't think we can offer much more insights.  We can only offer to do our best in presenting a great event.  We apologise to anyone that might have been offended by all of this mud-slinging - something we truly wanted to avoid but just could not as a result of the baseless and one-sided arguments that was being made.  Whichever tour you end up doing - have fun and be safe!

Ok ASG, let me spell it out for you: the problem is right there on the top of your blurb for this new tour where you say:

"What was previously known as the Tour de Boland will from 2016 be called the Bestmed Tour of Good Hope"

If that is not stealing a tour then I do not know what is. If you owned it in the first place you would not have had to use a different name for your new tour.

I will be riding the real TdB and will be encouraging everyone I know to do the same and boycott your cuckolding event.

Enjoy and be safe.  Let's agree to disagree on this.

got to feel for the poor tannie doing traffic control at drakenstein municpality who has to try and work out WTF is going on here.

You could end up at the wrong finish line.

I just have one question on the ownership issue.

What did the contract between Carinus Lemmer and ASG say about the matter at the time he brought them into the event ?

I imagine WIkus from Ecobound is frantically checking the calendar to see if there is an event called "Through the Valley of Baboons" that just happens to be on the same weekend as Trans Baviaans...

We do have a reduced entry fee for current year entrants (R2900) - not that it's relevant to riders but to put it in perspective (accounting for VAT) we only R543 (27%) more than Carinus' entry fee (just over a R100 a day to use per entrant for a significantly bigger offering including a race village in 2016 and a potential huge saving in rider own cost by doing a 'clover-leaf' race and not travelling all over the Winelands).  Electronic timing will be standard from 2016.  Rudy Project Italy (new presenting Sponsors for the event) also offering each early-bird entrant a free helmet worth more than R2k each so should really boost the effective value to an entrant significantly.  The ASG SPORT sponsored goodie bags (we know everyone is not interested in that) should also offer significant extra value (like it did this year)....and all this before we get to all the race aspects which should be fantastic next year (so many new and exciting initiatives).  We think the TOUR OF GOODHOPE is going to offer fantastic value!

Looking forward. As a serious vet rider I will support this tour. ASG is taking this tour to the next level, thank you for that. We as vets want our own categories( split 30+ and 40+). Also give us sprinters jersey and points jersey. The idea of having one start village I also fully support!!! Cant wait for it.

A couple of questions:

1) I'm assuming you don't make money from the events you organise?

2) Why is it immoral for individuals to make money from events, but companies can

3) Do you actually believe what you're saying, or are you just saying it cause your shop stocks ASG Products?

In answer to your questions:

1) If I do not get a sponsor for an event, then YES in most instances one makes a loss, only breaks even, or make a small profit. Please bear in mind we only organize MTB events, not Road.

2) I never said it is immoral to make money from events. It is immoral when sponsorship money is pocketed, instead of being used directly to cover the costs, prize money etc.

3) Yes I do believe in my opinions. And NO I'm not just saying things because I'm an ASG dealer. I was referring to ASG Events, that's it!

I have organized MTB events for 10 years, so there is a lot I can tell you about the blood, sweat (and tears) involved. I do this on behalf of the business, who are the main beneficiary; any profits made, have carried the business through the slow periods.

However, I really feel I have said enough on this subject, the last thing I want to get involved in is a mud-slinging match.

Last but not least:

"A human being feels able and competent only so long as he is permitted to contribute as much as, or more, than he has contributed to him(self)." - L Ron Hubbard

Please fix the open seeded results (Especially the GC top 3) as PROMISED to re-establish some trust. What a joke, cant believe its still not fixed.

Oh boy. ASG really committed professional suicide here. First they try and hijack the TdB, then they deny the whole thing (even though its clear that they misrepresented their event as the replacement of the TdB). It seems like King Solomon must threaten to cut the baby in half first to see who the real mommy is.

I get why ASG is after the time slot of the TdB, but seriously, can't you just pick another date? The destructive nature of this action is really leaving a very sour taste in the mouths of SA cyclists. if ASG really wanted to avoid any confusion, they would have rescheduled their event.

I will probably never ride an elite / pro tour with my fat butt, but I am certainly not buying FTech kit or supporting any of the other associated brands in the ASG stable going forward. SA Cycling can really do without this type of destructive behavior.

I fully agree with you. I am a bit confused though. Since ASG had complete financial control over the Tour, are you accusing them of something?

I think the difference is that I did ride the event and I was subject to the crappy organising and timing issues.

So I welcome somebody coming in and doing a better job, I could'nt give a toss if it is ASG, Woolworths, Helen Zille herself who end up organising.... I want to do a properly organised multi stage road race.

I also couldnt actually care less about Carinus vs ASG, thats their issue to sort out, they are both big boys.I am pretty sure they are both in the wrong.

If you want to boycott them, cool thats your choice. But boycotting somebody on something that never affected you in the first place is weird.

This is like boycotting PostNet for stepping on the Post Office's territory, they did this because they feel that they can do a better job. But why should I care, I only send e-mail.... But screw PostNet!!!! VIVA

Dude, you have come on a thread started by ASG and relentlessly attacked them because you do not believe in their ethics.

Isn't it more ethical to go promote the thread that you believe in than try and destroy the one you do not believe in.

Thats like a BMW selling M3s by slating the C63 rather than telling people why the Merc is better...... You can't preach ethics on one hand then act unethically on another.

I disagree, Franschoek Cycles is accusing the organisers of TdB of pocketing sponsorship money that should have covered costs & prize money. It is not an unreasonable request from Napalm to ask for some clarification.

I wasn't directing my statement at that one particular question, but rather the trend here of continuous slating of one party by another and not rather promoting the one you support/believe in.

On your point: When you say organizers, are you referring to ASG or Carinus? We should be clear as that is a very serious allegation that is being made.
