Ok, we been looking into the two tours and we may be leaning towards Goodhope as an amateur team. They have a nice 20 team comp, any other local teams keen?

Been toying with the idea of bringing a team 2 of whom might be chicks who did Rouleur last year. Wonder if that will suffice?

If its an all ladies team it's fine, no mixed teams allowed.

Hopefully by saying a few words I'll be adding some value to the true history of the Tour de Boland.

1. The Boland area, in the 1900's, used to have their own Boland Cycling Union (BCU).

Somehow BCU stopped existing and was taken up by Western Province Cycling Union.

2. In 2002, under leadership of Japie Green from Paarl, the previous South African Cycling Association (SACA - the previous "Black" Cycling Body) President, a new BCU was established. Thus, BCU once again became a cycling union in its own right affiliated to the current Cycling SA.

3. The Tour de Boland was then initiated as a BCU event, and never belonged to any Individual/Events Company/Sponsor.

4. With the current provincial borders, somehow BCU became part of the Western Cape. The traditional BCU now operates as Winelands Cycling.

5. According to my knowledge, seeing that I was one of the founding members who steered the establishment of BCU under leadership of the late Japie Green, this event never belonged to anyone, but to the Cycling Community in the Boland area.

6. Sadly, the "Boland People" lost what was a true Boland initiative.

7. Or, I hope it's not the case, seeing that development of the youth by investing the proceeds from events like the Boland Tour was always and still is one of the few ways of doing talent development.

8. Finally, I truly hope our youth benefit from this.

I am very sincere when I ask this, what's your point?

We will be there to defend out Team Title!! :)

But if you guys are riding the team comp too...... FML :(

In that case, this is the right tour to enter then :P Our biggest challenge will be cutting from 12  DC  riders down to 8 :D

Better hurry up and enter guys - team entries filling up quickly!  Going to be hard but awesome.  Each team will get custom team kit jerseys designed and manufactured by Ftech in Italy (with individual team designs).  Team TT going to be a nice new feature on day 2.

Entries done... TEAM TT: That is going to be awesome! Can't wait!!

soooooooo tempting to reply in detail to rubbish statements like this....come and have a coffee at ASG - (Pretoria, Italy or Paarl office)...open invitation to get all the facts or at least then see another version of the truth :)

aw crap, I was just in Milan last week....Thanks for the offer, if I'm in Paarl cooling my heels I will come and say howzit/pronto. I don't really have a dog in this fight (the road tour in the region i would trade my pink ticket in for - http://www.tourofara.co.za/about!) I think enough has been said on this matter, good luck to both events hopefully there is a way to coexist.

I agree with that :)

I did the Tour de Boland this year and the timing was extremely bad. The waterpoints was way below par for an event like this especially given the extreme heat. Mobile marshals to control traffic was way too insufficient especially on the mountain passes where we had to deal with trucks and taxis. The logistics of finishing in a different town every day is also a nightmare.

I chose to do the Tour of Good Hope next year as there are some exciting new innovations and I believe it will be the better organised event. Already entered as part of a team and looking forward to it.

Stop moaning bitching and accusing people and sponsors, evaluate the tours and make your decision.

Be thankful that road stage races are getting on the calendar and having a choice is great.

Wonder how many of the people kicking up dust on this thread actually participated or plan to participate in any of these tours...
