A Johan with the number B163. I remember because I had A163

They handed out tickets around prize giving which sucked for all still on route...

That's absolute bull. The winner should have bee drawn from the entry pool.

As usual the Monster doesn't disappoint!

shew took quite a lot to regain composure once finished the 80km in 4h20.

The new start was tough, gaining 400 odd meters in the first 12km.

Did miss the cell tower climb, was expecting it but never showed.

Beers and burgers afterwards was awesome with quite a few people while waiting for people to come in.

back next year... of course!

I enjoyed the new route more than the old route as it was all rideable and the organisers did alot of work scrapping the route. The mountain sanctuary park with that portage section and rocky decent always took a lot out of me.When we took a right not to do the cell phone tower, well that was a nice surprise.

My first 1 as well and also held back to after the downhill of the monster climb, tried making up time from there, but could only do so much with the 45km guys creating a bit of a bottleneck on that small cement strip part near the end. Managed a 5:12 though.

Must say I thoroughly enjoyed the race! Propper MTB stuff!!!!

Held back a bit until after the monster and then as Murphy works out broke my front derailer so needless to say was quite tough after this. Probably the worst section was the sandy section of few hundred meters.

Fab race ! My first full one certainly lives up to its name. Well trust specialised to adopt the elitist approach and not draw from list of entrants !! Half the real Mtb warriers were still out on course of the full one . Apparently the announcer said at one stage over 400 riders still on course ! That's a lot of people who were excluded from the draw-poor form! Have also posted on their FB page. So did Thule, extreme lights and e bucks draw in similar ways to Specialised ??

Completing this ride certainly gave me a sense of achievement. Was a great ride.

Finished the 45km in just under 3 hours. Not shabby for my second event ever. Next year I have to beat it.

Sand never bothered me too much. I think the 29er helps. Also, in the YouTube video I watched, they warned of lots of sand and said to pump quite hard - so I did. On some parts, I was actually overtaking in the sand.

Downhill rock sections were a bit tricky. I was grateful I went tubeless this week and got tyres with hard walls fitted. My stock tyres would have taken some strain I think.

The peeps were great. Rode with a few groups of great guys. Good sportsmanship.

Just one guy irked me a bit. Screaming "move" to those of us in the way (also overtaking). I have no problem getting out the way, but courtesy goes a long way to getting what you want. Was just one dude that did this, so did not ruin the race. Rest of the 80km guys were great they way they handled the congestion us 45km guys created. You always got to get a dick though.

Nearly had one wipe close to the start. Was too close to the dude in front of me, and he suddenly slowed down when hitting sand causing a kissing session between his rear and my front. Threw me off balance quite hectically, but I recovered. Was insane.

Well done to all that completed. Was a great ride and will be back next year.

EDIT : How could I forget the FNB area. That was simply awesome. A nice much after the ride, fresh orange juice, and a neck, back and leg massage to boot. Thanks FNB!

I agree, but not sure it was a spez decision. How on earth can they exclude so many entrants from the draw. Should simply have made the draw from the entries.

Other than that a good day out I think. Challenging and tough. Improved my time on the marathon by 1h30 despite cramping badly in the last 10km. What's with that, never have cramping issues. Anyone else suffer with them yesterday.

Was  good to ride this race again after missing it for few years. The batch starts and new route worked out well with very few bottlenecks. Also had some cramp in the last few KM's so nursed it home.

Regarding the prize giving what an absolute joke............arrived in time but there were no numbers to be found. They should just use the race numbers and forget about the winner having to be there if they are gonna have the draw so early. I mean most of the guys that need a new bike were probably still out riding anyway.

My first monster, but I also cramped in the last 10km which I never do... guess I have to work more climbing into my training.

Enjoyed the half marathon, it was 42.5km on my Garmin. Saw a lot of confused people from later batches but I just ignored them and rode. Think I was fourth lady home. Should have not been so chicken and done the marathon but hey the terrain in those parts is rough,,,reports of all the sand do not warm my heart. Well organised by Stillwater as always. Also decent goody bags.

Anyone know when/where results will be up?

Results are out on Spectrum Sport http://www.spectrumsport.co.za/Portals/17/ResultDoc/MagaliesMonster_Mtb_20150523.pdf

Yes should have done the draw by your race number.Just imagine slogging it out for 6 plus hours finishing the race and being awarded a bike in a lucky draw. Now that's what dreams are made off.

After your prang last year I was hoping you managed to go the distance. I too was screwed by a third party. Work called me at 16h00 on Friday to tell me I had to work in the place of an ill colleague. FML!
