Glad to see you finished,

i was one of the two trying to help out.

My mate fell and damaged his hand so i helped him limp home but must have passed you along the way somewhere.

Must be honest,

didn't find the 45km difficult/technical at all,

the climbs were steep and slippery at times and my gearing didn't help, but other than that everything was rideable.

I saw your mate think it was just before on of those dropoffs and spoke to him briefly where he said he hurted his hand when he came down. After that long climb the rest are not bad. Most of my energy was lost by pushing the bike on the climbs and also spinning try to get speed.

My son loves this race. Has been doing it since 14. First the 20km and from 15 the 45km. It's his favorite race and his entry is always one of the first. He's 17 now and dying to do the 80km but there's an age restriction of 19 (understandably so). He does much better on longer races.

Unfortunately he was sick on Saturday but finished the race in 2hr50. He had to stop a couple of times to throw up. To everyone that stopped to ask him whether he's ok (he was on a blue/black Scott in Cycle Lab clothes), thank you so much. He finished not looking good and is still not 100%.

He will definitely be back!!!

Kudos's to the organizers. Done my first MM 45 km.

One of the better race-packs I ever received - (Compared to the Asburton and Nissan series). Well done and thank you for the sponsors.

I love the track (including the fall on the downhill )

Biggest complaining is the bad attitude or unwillingness of persons pushing their bikes on the riding lanes without worrying about other or try to repair their bikes on the single tracks. (To hell with the other riders) .

Definitely back next year for the 78 (80) (81.13 )

Finished my second monster (first 1 was in 2013), and was absolutely great. Lack of training over the 3 or 4 weeks leading up to it meant I didn't get the time I wanted, but was still bettered my previous time by 40 odd minutes (5:24). Pushed a bit too hard in the beginning and didn't leave enough in the tank, so 40km - 60km was udderly finished. It milked me properly :P

What a day out. My first time and felt rough from around the 30km mark. Suffered on my hardtail. If anyone picked up either a pearl Izumi arm warmer(marked on the inside for the right arm) or my ice ID please could you let me know. Byron

Still learning? You clocked top 100....well done man! Yip it was hard work on the HT.....

I just want to know what black magic those tandems used to make it down the steep sections after the first climb...

You should've seen the couple on a tandem that came blasting past me on the one downhill. It must have looked like I was standing still.

Very brave.

well, thats how you make a comeback..... I have not been on my bike since Sabie Experience in December and getting last minute entry into the monster is about just what I needed to my get persepctive on this great sport back and get training again. This is a real MTB race. Everything about it is what a mtb race should be. I loved those technical descents! I just wanted to go back up and do them again. Top event on the calendar! 10/10 for everything. Now to get back to some proper training so I dont bleed out of every bodily orifice at the next event.......

Hated it.

soft sand, soft sand and more soft sand with a bit of grass in it here and there.

Preferred the 2013 route a lot more.

Got to the top of Breedts in around 2h20 thereabouts and had a sense of humour failure before getting onto the tar heading to crystal waters / canopy tours.

That soft sand loop was totally unnecessary.

Threw my toys and sulked to finish in 5 hours flat... MikeBike and I having a jabber all the way back from the 50km mark.

The energy saved while in sulk mode was spent on drinking beer at the pub

Hope he has recovered by now.......if not, please take him to a specialist just to make sure everything is in order.

When sick, do the right thing and stop..........it can save your life!

That is the truth.

Hope the kid is all better now. .

Had I not even attempted it I would probably have been much better by now. . But we are stupid that way.

One of the "pro's" that knows him quite well, spoke to him afterwards and told him to listen to his body and not to try and proof a point. A race is not as important as his health. This seems to have made a big impact, hopefully he has learnt his lesson.

He is feeling better, I left him at home yesterday with a bag of meds and he felt better by last night. He went to school today and is going training afterwards. I told him to only train lightly and not to train at all if he doesn't feel well enough.
