I mean carry no bottle out of transition but take one and carry one from the first liquid station if its also a case of only being 1 km out.

yr point about the elevation of the course is spot on...it will have far less effect in 2016 than 2015.

Why take the risk?  If you are going to carry a bottle from 1km onwards then rather just take one from the start.  1km is not worth the savings.  In fact you only stand to drop the bottle and have to stop and turnaround to get it.  Also those bottles arent cool so I advise on freezing half your bottle overnight so by the time you get onto the bike it will be nice and cold to drink as well.

Fill it up halfway and leave in freezer.  Morning before the race you fill it up and put it on your bike.

I went for 25mm Tufo's

5 weeks serious training left. Finding it very difficult to relax and take rest days. While I fully understand the import there of I get all fidgety and my wife reckons its hell.

Guess it's fairly normal.

ahahaah you know you are an endurance athlete when 2 days off (for any reason) feels like you have lost all fitness, you feel fat, and generally just unhappy with the world.

Had a bit of flu last week, basically trained only once during the week (had 2 great days on the weekend though) it felt like I was losing everything that I had worked so hard for, weird how the mind works. But almost there though, last push now.

I am exactly the same. Even if I knock off 60km on the bike before work I start wondering if it's worth popping up to the dam for a swim before supper... Running the Peninsula Marathon on Sunday and am starting to wonder if I should maybe ride and swim on Saturday instead of rest....

It's a problem!

You're going to swim and bike the same day as Ironman...so why would you rest the day before an open marathon ;)

Now you see I was waiting for that!

I see your logic but I disagree.....

Over training is a real thing, so when you have already biked 200km and swum 12km and run enough all in the week leading up to a marathon that, to be fair, still has to qualify me for oceans is ridiculous.

Do what is necessary within reason. Resting before a marathon is fine. I won't be heading out for a mountain bike and a paddle on Saturday the 9th of April because Iron Man is really just base miles for expedition Africa in May....

With one 2 year old and one 6 month old siblings I find rest days extremely sesy to come by....

Tomorrow I will cycle 5 hours out of desperation.  I will.  I will.

And I managed 05h30!  On a trainer

last sunday I tried to do 5 hours on the idt.i bailed.

I think that amount of time on the IDT takes lots of everything.  One hour is difficult enough.

because of fam commitment I could not go and do a long ride so settled for the idt.idea was 5 hours.the first 2:30 was sort of ok but then it killed me.ended up doing the rest in 45 min intervals with a short brick run inbetween just to give my furniture some respite.never have I looked forward so much to bricks.

Just wondering....do u change your riding kit during the 5.5 hrs?

I find it much more comfortable to change shorts and shirt after about 90 minutes...sometimes even my socks are wet with sweat

a real stupid stupid question and please don't flame me as I am coming of an 17 hour plus week and feeling rather tender.i smoke.one of the most difficult issues for me is to be without a sigarette on race day.i can sort of survive the day without a smoke but when I run past a spectator who smokes all hell breaks loose in my mind.are you allowed to take a drag and race further or would that be taken as outside assistance.
