If the fork on the EX 8 was upgraded to the Fox 32 performance series (like on the EX 9) and was a kg or 2 lighter I would feel quiet confident in purchasing the EX 8. I would be keen to add a dropper post to the bike if I got it but would be iffy about adding more weight.

Now I am also considering the Merida one twenty xt(http://www.merida-bikes.com/en_int/bikes/full-suspension/marathon-tour/2015/one-twenty-xt-edition-1832.html). I have been quoted a price within my range, the 1.900 is a better model but way out of my budget.So after much research and head banging I am seriously confused, the silverback slider 2 keeps jumping into my head but I am just worried it will restrict me on the longer rides I do love to do.I am keen to buy something I have seen and chatted to the shop owner about, if i start looking beyond what is readily available in SA I will just just get drowned in information and choice.

I got a pretty good deal on it since its last years model and it basically has everything (minus a dropper) I want. I just wanted to thank you all for your input and suggestion, it was very much appreciated, it helped me figure out what it is I want. I will post a wee pic of the beaut in all her glory once I get a bit of muck and dirt on her
