Newlands / Rhodes Fire

mtb trails tend to be through areas of flammable vegetation. Fires will start easily.

Not convinced all the fires were arson. Just sounds like a convenient story that could result in some security benefit so maybe we should just run with it

Thanks for the updates DJR  The afternoon treks out to that side of the mountain have been worth the effort ...Can't Begin to imagine what we would do if that side got closed as-well.

not one for conspiracy theories...But Tokai trails...Jonkeshoek trails and now the Devils peak trails...

Well... talking about conspiracies, that was my first thought. Trails burning out almost "just like that"? But anyways... Glad they sorted this out. It's already a pain not to be able to do Tokai.

This is what it looks like today, from above the burn. No great harm done. They managed to keep it away from the trees and UCT. The pole in this picture is the same one in the above picture.

Nice, now I can see where that track goes :)

That's where I was doing my time this morning. Haven't ridden that bit by the zoo as I didn't know if it was an actual track or not and am usually on the MP single track to the gate.

Stupidly thought it was a good ideas to try a couple of loops taking in going up PP. That is a very average hill. I'd forgotten how much I don't like it.

On another tack that 'dh' from the block house they put in from the epic is looking even more ragged. Almost every one I saw today was either walking it or dragging the back break the whole way.

I'm not feeling all that inspired by that track either. It cannot be ridden without brakes, at least for 99% of riders. Last thing we need before pitching for sustainable trails is the pitch for an unsustainable one, let's hope the north management is not put off of ST because of it..

The approved and marked single track in the trees on the South side of the steep tar road going up to Rhodes Mem is a lot more fun climbing as well as descending anyway. The one you see in the picture is mostly now used by walkers because mtbikers ride the other (legal) one.

The new link from the Blockhouse corner to the top of Plum Pudding hill?

I agree, it is too steep and straight down to be sustainable. After just one winter it will be washed away and rutted worse than it was before - or it is going to need serious ongoing repair work.
