Beaulieu Country Estate Discriminating Against Cyclists

I cannot believe that they want us cyclist to use the pedestrian gate.

I do have a few concerns as I use this gate at least twice a week.

  • The pedestrian path is very narrow an will only allow for one way traffic.
  • Going out at this gate and using the pathway will then see all cyclist having to cross the road as the pedestrian path sits on the other side of the road. This will cause confusion and irritates the Drivers who hates us even more.
  • They have a visitors and residential lane for incoming and outgoing traffic why can't we use the visitors boom gate.
  • The walk way also goes past the one of the doors of the guard house and you cannot see if anyone is going to step out of the guard house and onto the path.
I definitely do not want my bar-end to hit a guard in the tummy.

What do they think is going to happen should a cyclist accidentally hit a pedestrian on their sidewalk?

I don't think this is a very clever move from an estate that promotes outdoor activities.

Clearly the Home Owner's Association have had some issue with some cyclists at these gates. (None that I know of we always used to pass with friendly smiles from the guards.)

Would have been better for the HOA to just request a meeting with all cyclists to resolve the issue rather than just implement a system which can't reasonably work.

How do you get yourself and your bicycle through a turnstile without scratching or damaging it?

It's irrelevant, the road going through is a public road .

I walked through that turnstile gate this morning, it's an issue.

I now have to dismount and walk till I am out of the estate, it is very narrow allowing space for one person only, I can only assume that it will be even a bigger issue with 4 or more cyclists .

The estate might have an electric fence and boom gates, the bottom line it's still a public neighberhood .

I can see us picketing at those boom gates soon .

We are cyclists not cattle .

Vehicles, including cyclists, have been riding through the estate for years, why the discrimination against cyclists all of a sudden? Why not make motorcyclists go through the turnstiles as well then? What's the diffs, except for the obvious, one is mechanically powered and the other human powered????

They are concerned for your safety   :whistling:

If you fall you might impale yourself on those spikes and they can have a lawsuit against them.

What about motorcyclist?

How do you request a meeting with random people who ride through your area?

Hi Ramrod

Are you aware of any incident with cyclists in the past weeks ?

It really only takes one or two bad apples .

That's the problem right there.

That road is not your area, it's a public road.

What about motorcyclist?

Do you fill in the visitors book every time you pass the boom or do you just ride through?

A motorcyclist has to fill in the book and they open the boom and the spikes drop?
