hey guys, i came across this and thought that's really ***, then remembered the awesome people we have on the forum and figured maybe we could assist Wendle from Thaba as per his request. please rather contact him directly if anyone can help as i am really only playing the middle man here.

SO, I am once again a STATISTIC......It's 3:30am and I have just arrived back from my Shop at Thaba....They have broken into my shop and have stolen all my mountain bikes...Hours before I start riding the Old Mutual Joburg2Sea.....I am devastated....please be on the lookout and let me know if you get offered any of the following:

White/Blue/Red Cannondale 29er..Medium
Black/green/white Cannondale 26" with 27" wheels. Brand new Powertap.Medium.
Merida Big Ninety Nine..Medium.
Mongoose Downhill Large
Mongoose Downhill Medium
Trek.

How does one feel..ANGER....FRUSTRATION...Now to try find a bike in time for the Joburg2sea....I cannot let the children at ETHEMBA VILLAGE down...I am riding to raise money to help these Orphaned children to a better life..a start on the right track..an awareness and responsibility to others and to South Africa. To show them that they CAN be lifted up and through the GRACE of GOD not get swept up into a life of crime and drugs.

I will NOT let these thieves steal my JOY...LORD I bless them with my bikes as a GIFT rather than giving the devil any credit for this crime...i WILL still DO THE TASK SET BEFORE ME BY YOU LORD AND THAT IS TO RAISE THE FUNDS FOR ETHEMBA VILLAGE BY RIDING TO THE SEA....I just ask you LORD..YOU deal with them. AMEN.

cheers Guys.

Do you know if his bikes were insured? Certainly must have been. So maybe lending a bike/s for the Jhb2C?

i think indirectly Wendel was asking if anyone has a bike he can use for JHB2C. i am sure he was insured but getting a bike in time may be out of the reign of possibility.

Wendell does so much charitable good it could not happen to a nicer guy. Hope he comes right but surely one of his suppliers will step in and assist.

Hi Guys,

It seems like such a long time back but I have only just seen this post. I am so humbled to report on this incident. I was flabbergasted at the 25 offers of a bike to loan for the Jhb2C. I did manage to get a bike and did start on the 24th SO THANK YOU FOR THE OFFERS. YOU REALLY SHOWED YOUR FRIENDSHIP.

Some feedback from my side. Day one was a challenge of note. Having undertaken to ride for a charity ETHEMBA VILLAGE...I dragged a single wheel trailer behind me filled with spares and tools. I was amazed how many guys were in need of my help.Needless to say I was the last rider home. We had made some minor adjustments to the trailer on Thursday and due to me sourcing a bike we had no time to test the trailer. Not quite happy with the tracking I decided to go with my gut feeling and sent the trailer home.

Day two was a super day having less handicap and simply enjoyed the ride.BUT day three was my leveler. I was having a great ride  until my decent off Mt George...I got stuck in a rut about 10km from home and had a fairly gentle fall..nothing wrong or broken..bike perfect so on I went. After crossing the finish line I saw Gerald de Kok was the next rider home and we had a laugh about my fall but luckily he did not see it happen so no report on it at prize giving.

About an hour after I'd finished I noticed a swelling on my knee and after a short wait at the medical station Dr Grant took one look and told me he was sending me home. My knee was growing in size and eventually it was the size of a football. You see, I was on medication to thin my blood ( WARFAREN).Now I KNOW there are others who are doing the same as me. My one mate said he had been using it for over 20 Years and just bled a lot....cool ! If I had cut my knee as opposed to just knocking it hard on a rock I would also have bled a lot and been able to eventually stop the bleeding BUT I was bleeding internally. This was my Knee..what if it was in my lungs or other internal organs ? I would probably not be writing this report.

I had a small op to release the blood on my knee but unfortunately I have been in a leg brace for nearly 5 weeks, spent 8 days in hospital and the tissue damage to my quads will be taking a long time to mend. I will have to make some serious choices and decisions shortly but the main consideration will be my health...I urge you to make others aware of my predicament ...If you are on this type of medication, the arm band telling all what it is may NOT save your life. If you have flu or ANY illness that a doctor would advise you NOT to ride...listen to them....PLEASE, the effect on your family is just not fair.

and b the way..the thugs came back a second time to take the DVD recorder on which they appeared and sadly they stole another 8 bikes from the JPU cycling academy. A charity looking after a group of street kids from Jeppe and Mark, Richard and Patrick are devastated as MTB has had such a profound effect on these youngsters. If anyone has a bike hanging in the garage that is not being used please consider these kids,

THANKS again for all your thoughts and wishes. Support for my charity ride has resulted in over R40,000 generously donated for ETHEMBA VILLAGE. THANK YOU.

When I spoke to Wendell yesterday he looked a lot more positive and it seems the motivation is also coming back. Good luck Wendell. Speedy recovery.
