Drive Chain, What could be the problem

about 3500KM later and I have a shifting issue, I always replace the cassette and chain before the end of there life.

Now on the middle gears I have a bit of jumping or misplaced gearing, not the jumping you get when you put a new chain with a old cassette or vise versa, it sometimes just moves 2 gear or nothing at all when I shift.

I'm guessing the  problem could be my 4 year old Sram XO grip shifters, do these wear and loose indexing or is the problem elsewhere.

Yes, cable replaced inner and outer, new X9 derailer

Ive done many setups, this one is no different, the problem started 3 weeks back, Im wondering if the parts or gripshift is loosing its indexing,

Try adjusting the adjusting screw at the shifter together with the adjusting screws at the deraileur. The screw at the shifter is for fine tuning. I suspect that or your shifters may be the problem.

Have you checked if the derailleur hanger is aligned?

From what you have described id also suggest this. Maybe you fell off or the bike fell over? Its seldom that the shifters wear out like that in my experience. I'm running XT and the shifters last the longest.

Point to either a bent hanger or just incorrect adjustment.

Start from scratch.

- Check and correct hanger alignment.

- Check derailleur for any signs of damage.

- Make sure cable is smooth in the housing.

- Make sure shifter is clean and lubricated.

- Reset limit screws on derailleur

- "Pre-stretch" cable

- Then tension cable and adjust indexing.

Since the cable outer was changed, perhaps the inner cable is sticking on a burr created when outer was cut or perhaps just bad outer

Seems easiest and cheapest fix - hope so for your sake
