New saddle

Hi all,

I think it's time for a saddle upgrade. My saddle, which I've ridden for several years, has been fine and not worried me, but of late I've started to find that on longer rides, I start to get pressure numbness. So I thought maybe a good saddle is the answer.

Who stocks the biggest selection at the most reasonable prices, and how does one actually go about selecting the right saddle?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Me

Hi, if your saddle worked for you in the beginning I would replace it with the same model.

Saddles wear out over time and need to be replaced. When they wear out, it can cause all kinds of aches and pains. Since you have had yours for several years this may be the case.

Saddle choice is personal preference and you will get a many different answers, but a good starting point would be getting your sit bones measured at a bike shop if you really want to change models. Ask for a demo saddle that you could test. Don't know Joburg, so can't advisie on a store.

Hope that helped

if its not worn out why buy a new one if it makes your plums numb long distance its cause your legs are tired

try drop the nose about 3 degrees from horizontal if that's what it is now

I agree with PJP2013 on replacing with the same saddle.I baught my second bike with a WTB Silverado and this saddle has been transfered from bike to bike since.Have tried 3 other different ones, but the Silverado seems to be the shape and fit for my sit bones.Have looked at a few Fizik saddles but not about to take a R1000+ chance on something that might not work for me.When the time comes to replace I will just stick with what I know works for me.

Saddles are a tricky thing cos you cant always try them first and need to ride a few times on it to see if it works.

As previous comments, its a personal preference but may cost you a bit to find that preference.

I guess you could try ride some mates bikes who have different saddles to see what works or buy the same saddle you have if it worked-why try to fix something that is not broken?

Also a Silverado fan for 3years .Tried a spez phenom recently and am very happy with it .It has a similar shape than the silverado

As far as I know Tool-Up Cycles in Midrand have loan saddles that you can use for a week or so before you commit to buying. Maybe give them a call, see if they still do...

Go to bike basement in rivonia and use the prologo touch system. Measures your ischial bones and then recommends a pro logo saddle but you will at least know how wide your saddle should and the shape (flat or round, etc)
