Chain length with expander sprocket

Hi guys,

I have a query. I recently popped on a 42t Kalbo expander sprocket to a new XT cassette and chain and am running a 32 tooth NW front chain ring (Rapide) as well as having a SLX clutch type rear derailleur. I haven't shortened the chain, 116 links, but when putting force down while pedalling I hear a crunching, grating noise. Upon investigation i can see that the chain is being pulled up, almost like chain suck, a little on the underside of the front chain ring.

Is this because the chain is too long and needs to be shortened slightly to create more tension? Is it just the new chain on the NW chainring? Has anyone had a similar experience?

I did mine and didnt shorten the chain.Ive had no issues at all. If you check kalbo site under FAQ's they explain how to check if your chain is too long.

Whats your chainline / chainring / crank setup?
