Fasted Training vs Fuelled training

I don't do pre/during/post training fuels partially because of the cost of these 'supplements' and as someone that just likes riding (ja ja I know, lots :blush:  ) but will never be a race winner I'm quite happy with just keeping my weight under control and having fun!

that sounds serious. But the fasting state or just something to kick start your metabolism works wonders for weight loss, or for me atleast. lost 8kg in a 6 weeks of training, with zero power loss.

Personally I don't believe in the kick start metabolism and eat 15 times a day to accelerate it, Tried is all and bottom line is Calories in vs Calories out. 

 

Yes you have your insulin spikes Etc Etc but that's got nothing( personal experience) to do with metabolism.

What I have discovered and have worked for me personally is ...when I eat my last meal for the day I eat like a pig ( 2x meals in one) by doing that I actually force my metabolism to work overtime or suffocate-something like that. 

 

BTW this was not while cycling was just some gym work and weight control

As stated before will give it a go next month and monitor results.

Intermittent fasting rocks. Been doing it for 2 years now. This coupled with cycling has seen me lose close to 25 KGS on a high carb diet.

 

Some tests on fasting and endurance athletes have actually shown that athletes who train fasted experienced higher levels of muscle glycogen, what we cyclist need.

 

I've done some 4 hour zone 2 rides fasted with no negative effects. And I have an odd recover method of not eating for Two hours after training whether fasted or not.

 

When its time to eat I don't hold back.

the body can only access fat stores for a max of 120minutes (if your body is conditioned to it ) for fuel after that the body reverts to seeking glycogen from the muscles and liver

100%In fact, as a rule I don't take anything with me but water on rides up to 3 hrs. And I live in a seriously hilly area with long rides often going over 2000m climbing. And 30+ degree heat in summer. On big rides (120km+) I'll pop some gels in my back pockets for when I pass the 3 hr mark. It also applies to high intensity stuff up to 90 min - 2hrs. No need for nutrition during these hard sessions either, because I'm not going anywhere near full glycogen depletion.

would you care to back up your opinions with a decent external source or two that indicates that your bunkum is more or less than mine .......before we all go facist and burn some books :mellow:

Got my chairman visiting today and tomorrow for his monthly visit. Was a little too stretched today to look at much else, so will try make a constructive contribution over the weekend while I watch the Dauphine.
