Toughest Road Climb in Pta East and Old East?

Where would you say is the best place to go sweat it out in Pretoria east (or old east)?

I'm looking for some nice steep climbs to do some hill repeats before or after work during the week.

Klapperkop is a given, I'm looking for the hidden gems.

Maybe post a Strava segment of your favourite local climb if you like.

The steepest tarred road (gradient wise)?

The longest climb?

The most fun?

etc.

Spinnekop, I'm sure you know of a few nice ones!

Tom Jenkins is the cement road up to behind the Union Buildings

You can also try Lois Ave (Newlands?);

Rubenstein (Moreleta);

Rubenstein - Blouhaak, Rutgers - Rubenstein (also Moreleta);

Matroosberg (Waterkloof);

Rose (Waterkloof);

Herbert Baker - Rigel (Groenkloof - Waterkloof)

These are a few frequent training ones (all with low traffic volume as a prerequisite):

One of the longer climbing sections (with a couple of dips) in my regular routes is Club Ave (becomes Eridanus and then right into Rigel, then left into Johann Rissik) from Dely rd to Fort Klapperkop.

Nice little workout that is.

Whats that cement road at the back of the Union Buildings called?

Oh yes, know that one well.

I'm just a bit scared of it when traffic is heavy from both ways :nuke:

I would say the longest is Solomon Mohlongo from North to South.

Steep - Cliffindale or Stonewall in Faerie Glen

Never done either of those, will go Sunday!

I often do Sidney after having come from Lynwood (various possible routes)  which gives more ascent than Johan Rissik up from Fountains Circle if I remember correctly

Your first pic - the hills between Emus Erasmus/Schoongezicht roads. If I can do these all in one session on my SS then I know I am fit!

I allways end up doing Hans Strijdom from Lynnwood rd to Louis Botha at the end of my weekend ride.

The last stretch from Delphi to Louis Botha is about 2.8 km. The steepest part is about 9%.

It also has a nice wide yellow lane which makes it quite safe.

Judith in Waterkloof Glen is shorter (+/- 650 m)  but steep (13%)

If you want something out of the city, try Boschkop rd. From Lynnwood rd you turn left. It's nice and quite with a good surface. The last part of this road (before it makes a "T" with the Bapsfontein/ Cullinan rd) is a lekker long (ish) climb. It starts rather steep but flattens out a bit at the end. I haven't measured it, but will guess about 3 km in total. The steepest part is probably in the region of 10% and the last part 3 or 4%.

The total length of this road from Lynnwood to the Cullinan/ Bapsfontein rd is 17km.
