Friends of mine were bike-jacked yesterday morning. Fortunately, everyone escaped unharmed.

All you mountain bikers out there.................. BE CAREFUL !!!

Hi Everyone

Anita, Colin and myself went for an

anticipated 80 km ride yesterday.  WE went up through Blue hills to

the top of the airfield and then over the main Olifantsfontein road, down

London rd tar road.  From there at the end we left the tar and went

onto the dirt next to that substation.  Just past the substation,

we hit the jeep track, when Colin saw a dog in the grass and yelled at

Anita to be careful.  We often see dogs on our rides and sometimes

they chase us.  Anita stopped, and Colin and I caught up to her.  The

next thing the "dog" rose out of the long grass, brandishing

the biggest, shiniest knife we've ever seen.

This was an extremely well set up ambush,

over a 200 m stretch.  Suddenly out of nowhere there were guys popping

up everywhere with great big knives.  We were stripped of our bikes

and camelbaks.  THey were after the cell phones, as they pertinantly

asked Anita if hers was in her pack.  We were very fortunate that

Colin noticed the "dog", which turned out to be very Black.  At

least we were on the edge of the ambush, and the others further down the

line had to run up to us, which gave us the chance to then run like hell

back to London rd.  In all, there were a minimum of 10 of them - it

almost seemed as though they were set up to deal with quite a few riders.

Running in cyling shoes is a killer - feels like you are going nowhere.

We were very fortunate and are unharmed.  Please warn everyone

who rides in this area, as the grass is very long and this is the perfect

hiding place.  We've seen Craig, Malcolm, Troy and his Epic partner

on this exact piece of road.

Some roadies stopped to help us once

we were on London rd and said that apparently this had happened three weeks

ago, and had been in their newsletter - however, we did not know about

it!!!!  Please be careful.

Not hijacking, only a smash and grab.  The guys cell was stolen and, after chasing the "smasher", he shot him.  Maybe a bit of an overkill?

As for the bikejacking, eish, good luck guys!  But I would stay away from London Rd.  Not the safest road in GP as it runs RIGHT up against Alex.

After checking the map it seems there is another London road out near the N14 in the Diepsloot/Blue Hills area.

thanks ewep, only listend with half an ear.

maybe a bit of an overkill. people feeling that the powers that be are not doing what they suppose to, to protect the law abiding citizens and then taking the law into their own hands. something, i think, we are going to see more and more of.

again that movie of Jodie Forster - The Brave One - comes to mind.

Zoo, I have to agree.  The only problem that might arise from this is that the "poor criminal" might just die and a person defending himself has his life messed up completely.
