This one is going to be my first race (1/2 Marathon), looking forward to it, guess I'll get stuck in with the slower riders at the start, but I'm sure it will be good fun!

Any advice (especially prep/spares wise) would be much appreciated!

Multi-tool, Spare tubes, puncture kits, hand pump/CO2  bombs, tire levers, small bottle of lube, chain-breaker with power links(and make sure you know how to use them), cable ties and Duct-Tape... I have used all of these out on the trails and carry that all in a tool bottle whether I am racing or just out for a fun ride.

Look into some energy gels and maybe a small easy to munch on the go type snacks and enough water. Snacks aren't a major need coz every water point is like a buffet...

And the most important thing, be considerate. If you cant ride a section clear out of the way for the guys who can ride it, it prevents bottlenecks and makes it way more pleasant for everyone at the race.

Have fun! These races are super easy (usually) and loads of fun!

This is you best shot at a sub 3 - hakahana is way tougher, and diamond rush presents a good challenge

Looked at the results , maybe sub 3 aim is a bit high but lets see, maybe I can get it.

Registered for 40, but will be changing to 70 on the day ( no online option to change)

I suggest you phone/mail then NOW to change it. If the marathon entries are sold out (which they will) you will not be able to change from 40 to 70km at registration.

How technical is this race. Can it be done on a Mtb tandem?

Not too technical at all. I can't remember from last year if it was this race or roodeplaat that I saw a tandem doing the marathon.

But anyway it's do-able on a tandem, but hopefully not your Raleigh with rolfs on.

No ways!  Fortunately I have a Mtb tandem

will be my first mtb race in almost 3 years

might just do one half marathon before I go back to the marathon

My technical skills on non existent atm.

It's not such a technical route. And a licensed rider like you will cope with the distance.

Did the same, but for the Half Marathon. Fitness is not quite there for the full....But next year it will be

You make too many assumptions about my fitness for the full.   :whistling:

Thanks for the tips WarriorMTB, the only thing I need to get is a power link then.

Another question, with this being my first race, where do I get my number board?

You can pick up your number board at registration.

Just ask the peoplethat hand you your race pack to direct you to the people that handle that. Usually they sit to one side with a laptop. Ask them to check that the chip picks up on the system.
