MTB for wife

Hi,

I would like to get a MTB for my wife.

Any advice on type and where to buy would be appreciated.

An entry level bike should do for now, budget around R6000 to R8000 mark.

Thank you,

Welcome.

MTB for your wife sounds like a pretty good swop :P (just kidding)

One of my engineers got a Silverback for his girlfriend for around R7000.00.

Can't remember the model offhand.

Is it not maybe the Silverback Splash?

I have a barely used silverback splash 27.5  for sale if your interested. Possibly 150 Kms ridden?? NOT because she didn't take to the sport but because she did, and bought a dual suspension 2 months after she bought the silverback..

PM me if you would like to have a chat about it.

If she is small, my (ex)-wife has a brand new,  3 year old (yes, that happens...it has been hanging in the garage (now : her garage))  full suspension GT in small. Female specific, she asked me to sell it.

Instead of getting married again, I'm going to find a woman I don't like and just give her house. Rod Stewart

I think you may be right.

Be prepared to hang it on the wall as a portrait if she "doesn't take to the sport"...

You're right, hence the entry level...

If there is concern about her not taking to the sport, is there not maybe somewhere near to where you live that you could rent a bike to see if she likes it?

Go second hand - you'll get way better value and if she doesn't like it you should be able to recoup most of your money.

Silverback, Titan, Merida and a few others make great bang for buck bikes around the R10-12k mark which should be around R5-9k second hand depending on condition and age.

My wife has a Titan Calypso ladies bike great bike for her however my advice would be don't get a ladies specific bike so when you sell it your market isn't limited to woman only will make it easier to move again.

Be warned it could go the other way! Bought my wife a bike a few years ago, but she's a if you can join them beat them kinda gal, and I had to htfu quickly. Now it's great as we have a similar attitude and skill set, although I will claim to descend better than her , possibly due to my greater gravitational pull forcing me to go faster. Best thing you can do for your relationship, and your self preservation

Oh and if you get to stage 2 of bike buying for her, get her involved in it, bough a woman's specific bike as a surprise upgrade for her and it didn't work for her, took a lot of upgrading to get the bike right. Luckily she loves it now. Put it down to varsity fees, she wouldn't be able to choose a bike for me so why did I try?
