Advice - borrow one, or go to you LBS and ask for a bike box - should get that for free from them.

+1 for the cardboard bike box. For extra protecting get hollow pool noodles and slit them open, cut to size of the various tubes of the frame. Sorted.

Agree with V12. A normal cardboard bike box is fine. Have used it before. Put some bubble wrap in between parts that can scratch each other and it will be fine.

I have flown with them twice already using a cardboard box...no issues.

Also, travel insurance and or bike insurance should cover it too (mine does).

Got a cardboard box from LBS and resized it to fit my wife's TT bike. Wrapped in bubble wrap and filled empty spaces with throw pillows to stop it from moving about. Durban and back without a scratch. Even with 4 others packed on top of it... Or hire a plastic one, there's an add in the classifieds at the moment...

Does your wife roll on a Muna?

If you're going the cardboard bike box route, reinforce the area around the carrying slots/holes with packing tape. Otherwise the box is inclined to tear in these areas.

Also, note that DBN airport gets funny about the number of gas cannisters you can transport in your box - none. Try not to refer to your gas cannisters as bombs when in the airport.
