Whistler EWS - Dan Atherton from the Top.

The speed - the fitness - the exertion. Is EWS the ultimate MTB discipline?

14 minutes of pure adrenaline fuelled descending in Whistler - on what looks like some of the raddest trail I've ever seen.

7.7km, 986m vertical drop. In. Frikkin. Sane. And that's only one stage.

And he only placed 12th on that stage

That is the most incredible sporting footage I think I have ever seen. In 14 minutes I think I aged 6 months.

Compare that to an F1 driver who practices on a simulator for a thousand laps and then performs a closed completely known circuit repeatedly all within a clearly defined performance envelope.

Given the length I doubt you can ride this course more than a few times to practice. Then you plummet headlong at Anaerobic Threshold and have to make hundreds of microsecond decisions just to stay upright.

Completely insane. I am in awe!

Hmmm I am dreaming of similar lines where I rode yesterday. Honestly speaking, I rode over from gspot to coetzenberg yesterday. I was amazed at the network of old trails on the hill above th xco track. I would love to see these trails get some attention, with sanparks not coming to the party(I Know there are alot of factors etc) why not create over there?

Ja! Well said!

Showed the video to my wife (and got to watch it for the 7th time) and she kept cringing and ducking out the way of the trees shouting turn! The shear speed through some of those sections is just crazy, and turns like he is on a bobsled run almost.

What is scary is that Richie Rude still put nearly 30 seconds into Dan's time on this stage!

Really awesome on board footage and considering the terrain, amazing how still he keeps his head.

That is just ridiculous. How fit is he to get through that?

Cool sound track though, had some interesting looks when guys walked into my office while I was watching that

One word - very.

And yet not as fit as Richie Rude, who did it more than 30 seconds faster than him.

Can people now see why we say that Enduro is a brilliant concept? That the lack of timing up the hill doesn't really matter?
