PPA can fsk off, moved to JHB and they only exist to serve cyclists in the Western Cape. Then they expect you to pay their annual fee so that you can be one of the disciples chosen to ride the worlds biggest fun ride.

Consider country membership if you live outside the Western Cape. It'll cost you only R150 per year. Cheaper than a meal at a half decent restaurant, excluding wine. Just saying. :)

You still get more from your ppa membership than you do for paying your taxes....

Its 78km's. I first thought maybe they cut out that horrible treeline road. But no, its still going through there. They cut out the Darling road. Weird...

I know they really struggled to get permission to go on the west coast road last year. Its got one of the highest fatality rates in the western cape.

So in all likelyhood they want the guys off there as soon as possible. The turnoff to Mamre comes quickly from duinefontein but going all the way to yzerfontein then that is alot of time on that road.

Logistically they probably still want to keep the race to the westcoast surrounds since it is run by the outriders and that is their riding ground.

The darling route was pretty awesome though.

That road is lekker with quite a few unexpected climbs.

Logistically speaking is there any other way to put on a longer route minimizing the westcoast road and definitely not going on the N7?

A out and back to darling is maybe a option but then they would probably need road closure on that road to ensure safety.

Any other ideas what they should try next year?

Just to add: As far as I know, the traffic authorities don't allow any out and back routes. They also don't allow a cross-over point, like a figure of 8.

Very possible.

If there is a group on each side of the road you going to have problems.

On a side note...

Does anybody know if the crossing at the N7 from the Philadelphia rd is going under the road? Last time I was there there was pretty major construction.

If by some chance it is.....

Start could be in duinefontein.

Up westcoast road until atlantis industria area and up that road there.

Onto the darling road

Into darling

Turn right on the R315 towards Malmesbury.

(From memory the N7 goes under this road so we can go straight over into malmesbury)

Two options here - either go on the R302 like many of our races - Or take the road less traveled and try the Old Malmesbury Rd. (Shortlegs rode it the other day, its bumpy but ok he says)

If we on the R302 down to the silos, then up towards philadelphia.

If there is a bridge/tunnel across the N7 and onto the old tree lined road by atlantis.

Then back onto the melkbos / N7 link road and eventually back to the start.

+-145km for the silos route

+- 135km for the old malmesbury road

Any takers....  :whistling:

Sounds like you started your DC training already, W. Now you want to add extra intensity to it...

Im actually giving it a skip this year.....

Never had enough interest at work to enter a team so the whole thing just flew by me.

But its not all bad, at least I can ride to work every day now without worrying about saving the legs for the weekend. :whistling:

Same here, but I was approached to find out if I'll be interested.

I'm not...

You say im not with three trailing dots...

Sounds like you leaving the door open...

Lets clear up the table here...

If I had a team to ride with and costs where covered then I might just grow a rubber arm (3 dots)

Nah, got too many other cycling commitments already, won't be able to fit the DC in. (W2W, One Tonner, K2C, next year the Attakwas, J2C, etc)

I'll be kicked out of the house if I start training for the DC too. :D

I hear you.

The problem is as soon as you cross the N7 you are in 99'er, 1 Tonner and Durbie dash country, which isn't a problem as much as it becomes less of a West Coast feel.

The second problem is that there aren't a plethora of roads available to choose from in Outrider's country. Which means, adding a part of a route is adding quite a distance.  (throwing in a trip to Malmesbury is adding about 50km).

I feel for the logistics team on this one.

This year so far it seems to be geared for short, intense races.  Its the 47km Argus' fault!

Yup, well said!

Hey, another way to look at it. We dont complain that killarney sessions are only an hour long.  :cursing:

These short races just means that we have to dig deep and push really hard for shorter.

So have your pick -

long race = steady effort over long time

short race = try not get dropped in the first 2 min....

Either way, we should be thankful for every event we have now days.

I remember when I started getting into cycling around 10 years ago there were so many events in spring/summer that you could choose if you wanted to do the saturday or sunday race.

Now if we have more than one or two a month we are getting lucky.... (no im not talking about something else...)

One Tonner 2015-10-18

Cape Classic 380 2015-11-06 (sounds quite cool. 3000 bucks but includes everything)

And if you are really adventurous.... Heels on wheels  :whistling:   2015-11-08

Also dont forget about killarney.

Starting soon like next week maybe?

Tuesday / thursday (ppa)

Wednesday (the more crazy speeds)

Anyone know if western province or LBL is planning anything?

Ill look on the city cycles roster later, I know they also do events throughout the year and they are sometimes free / or very cheap. You just need the league chip.

apart from the pro tours around the world - road racing takes place on circuits. move with the times which means we will see less and less road rides like the WCE and Durbie Dash - we are running out of roads.
