Hi all,

I am in the process of buying a dual suspension bike. I have no more than R32K to spend and I struggle to find a bike between all the "sales Talk" at all the cycling shops.

Can you give me some guidance please.

I do the normal off road riding and some races but not competitive. I have a Mongoose hard-tail so I do not want to replace it with another hard-tail. I want to buy it new.

You will get an awesome bike for that money - you'd have to be more specific if you want anything more than general pointers. Dual sus I wouldn't bother with carbon, an alu model in that price bracket will have much better components than a similar priced carbon one.

Some good sales on 2015 models currently, as shops clear out stock for the 2016 models. otherwise giant and silverback generally have a really good bang-for-buck offering across the board.

Good on you for knowing that you're after a dualie and not a soft tail. Good luck with the shopping.

Shebeen, i basically need a fes bike names and shops that i can go and look at. I do not have any specific needs but i want to ensure my R30000 is spent well on a general offroad bike.

If you have 30k for a dual suspension bike and you are not exactly sure what kind of riding you like doing. Something enduro ready but also race friendly. Its called the giant trance.

Buy one while the rand is still worth more than the rupee.http://www.giant-bicycles.com/_generated/_generated_us/bikes/models/images/2000/2015/Trance-27-5-2-Black.jpg

The Giant Anthems I believe provide good bang for your buck.

Try find a bike with at least SLX / X9. If you end up with extra cash, upgrading the wheels will make the biggest difference.

Try to get a special on a 2015 bike as the 2016's come in.

Giant Anthem?

Cant believe this thread got to 8 posts before someone gave the right answer. OK, perhaps look at the Giant Trance also!

Edit: See, I was a bit slow on the draw, I'm tired from a long ride!

I dunno which shops to send you to up north of the border, BUT

look at the giant anthem(faster)/trance(bouncier)

or silverback sprada.

no one has said 650b/29er yet - keep an open mind on both and make sure you get to ride the bikes - even if just round the parking lot.
