Ferret69 Posted February 19, 2016 Share Ok Boys - hands up, who is going Sunrise Monster and/or Om die Dam? What times are you looking for? Sunrise is exactly that... a Monster... I'm doing Deloitte next weekend for my Dose of Pretoria Hills. ODD is a nice race but if you not staying in Hartees you need to be on Saartjies Nek by4am or you wont make the start.. last year I left the west of JHB at 3.45am and didn't make the start... ran through the Start banner at 6.10 after parking and running 3kms to the start line. Not fun, Doing Two Oceans as my Extra Ultra this time round. Edited February 19, 2016 by Ferret69
Stretch Posted February 20, 2016 Share What a ghastly morning..19km run and i felt flat from the beginning. The last 9 were pure hell and I could barely run on the flats...yip I bonked...properly. I swallowed 4 glasses of coke and a big pile of bread when i came home. Depleted sugar levels and dehydrated. So my question for those in the know is why? last weekend I ran 30 with no issues, but this entire week I have been constantly hungry. I would literally eat a big lunch and then an hour later be hungry again. The reason why I ask is that I have my qualifying next Sunday and suddenly quite concerned. I know its my body telling me something...and I have just come back from that killer Flu at the end of Jan. I plan to take next week quite easy. gonna take it slow and easy and take Fri and Sat off..and get lots of rest
SeaBee Posted February 22, 2016 Share Takes the body quite some time to heal up after a flu (an desp after anti-biotics, if that was on the menu). Maybe the recovery is not fully complete and then that 30 was still taking it's toll. Also found with me that what I eat the previous evening makes a huge difference, but this (to me) sounds like you're still getting going after the flu. I usually take a good couple of weeks or more before I start seeing my HR drop after an effort (esp on the bike) - and then I know the boys are back and we can go play again. I think I was just under prepared nutrition and water wise.

Legs felt heavy heavy on Fridays tempo set - Sat I was down like a dog - crazy tired. Felt better on Sunday but within the first 3km of our 30k I knew it was going to be a long day out - dragged my ass home and slept. Dosed up with some recovery and reloaded the system. Legs are still a bit sore but MUCH better today - maybe just a bio rhythm thing? Good luck for the weekends qualifier - what are aiming for? C batch or sub 03:30? C batch or sub 03:30? perhaps......also think flying to and from altitude in 3 days didnt help much either We have a sub 3:30 bus going for PMB Marathon - won't take me long to work out if I am ready for that bus or not! that's first prize...but C batching is the priority - so If I am battling to keep with that bus - then i will drop off and focus on the sub 3:40. Hill run tomorrow ..then easy wednesday and thursday (gonna give wednesday intervals a skip this week). Gonna give the legs a good rest on Friday and Saturday. Stretch Posted February 26, 2016 Share For those interested...Eddie Izzard is currently in SA in the Eastern Cape doing 27 Marathons in 27 Days. Wonder if he will trundle over to the Maritzburg Marathon On Sunday....
SeaBee Posted February 26, 2016 Share Ai manne, I have just entered my second marathon (sprint race for you okes) - the CT Marathon in Sept. Will mean a bit of a cold and dark winter for me... And if I'm there, I may as well maintain and try to go for Oceans Ultra next year. Doing trail run this year, but doubt whether the cost will entice me to do it again in 17. That's the plans... See some of you guys are starting to rack up some serious mileage, niiice!

Good Luck with the training.Hey Scott, happy to let him have 1st dibs. My training is going well, very comfortably up to 60km a week now, but I still have this fear in the back of my head that a Comrades could be too much too soon and maybe 2017 is the more responsible option. I'm going to carry on training but happy to leave the substitution window up to 'fate'
Stretch Posted February 26, 2016 Share must say...I am feeling a little bit anxious about Sunday...this time last year I was i a real good headspace and felt very confident....I am hoping my cautious anxious sentiment will work in my favour! The history is in the legs and judging by your avg pace in training this should be no more than a tempo hard run - nothing suicidal. Check your splits - steady on the gas - last 10 will be a bit more work but leave some matches for it. Let us know how it went! Easy C for you!
