Zwift and IDT

Hi fellow Hubbers

So I just saw the GCN video about the software known as Zwift. It looks really cool and not being a technical fundi, I was wondering if anyone could help me with how all these things work.

So I have an IDT -( giant cyclotron mag 2) it's a pretty ordinary idt and doesn't have the whole automatic braking system etc.

I want to connect it and try riding via my PC and maybe use software such as Zwift or the Cycleops software that I've read about. So with saying that, is it safe to say that all I really require is a speed and cadence sensor as well as an Ant+ usb which I can plug in to my pc and that'll pick up my speed and cadence and Input the figures into the software?

Please guys would really appreciate someone that could help.

Thanks in advance

I think you are right. I have been riding it but I have what they term as a "smart trainer". Lots of info on their site. I have enjoyed it so far but the island can become tedious. I cant wait for the full version. Currently it is free (Beta version) so download and try....

Was looking at the powersync at Cyclelab but I don't really have 11k to blow right now so I'm kinda looking for the quick fix option. Just need to get myself a Ant+ dongle now and should be ready to go.

If you have a:

- Giant Cyclotron trainer

- Ant plus dongle

- Ant plus speed and cadence meter

All you need is a Powertap hub wheel.

Friend of mine raced and trained on the Virtual Trainer software like that. Rode video routes as well.

Not ideal, as the actual fun is when the trainer is adjusting the resistance by it self while racing or riding a video course, but you will be able to use the software.

Check out the classifies for some nice deals on powertap wheels, as most of the guys selling there power wheels to move to Stages power meters.

good luck

Running it with Kickr with Ant dongle on windows 10.

Verdict: I rather push my bike outside in the rain with 2 flats.

Group riding was strange (apparentley better in latest revision but not bothered to test again)

1: People keep on disappearing and reappearing behind/infront of the bunch . (Apparently linked to internet connection delays)

2: The delay in power adjustments between "intelligent" trainers  mean you keep on going faster or slower than rest . You can compensate a bit by going slower before the hills . (they should build in the time delays in program based on trainer selected)

3: The internet delay is really crap.  You catch up to bunch and slow down a bit, all sudden you either way out front and you go even slower, bunch catches up and you start peddling harder, but the delay make the bunch outpace you and you have to play catchup again. this continue until you can figure out the delay and compensate for it.

I might just try it again for my next L2 session when its raining again, beats staring at the wall and don't need group ride then.  At least can count the palm trees
