Groenkloof or Wolwespruit early morning

I am interested in starting early morning weekday MTB rides after a fairly long layoff (over a year). My primary riding location used to be Groenkloof but from the discussions in here it almost sounds like a no go area.

So my question is Groenkloof or Wolwespruit for a weekday lone rider?

Not Groenkloof, nor Wolwespruit. Think they are closed weekday morning until the afternoon but just check I may be wrong.

Groenkloof is open on weekday mornings. You just have to use the Fountains gate to get in. I haven't ridden there on weekday mornings in a while but if you avoid the danger areas and ride in a group you should be okay.

Wolwespruit is open on weekday afternoons but you need to buy your access ticket at tool up cycles. They do not take cash during the week at the park. That was the case when I bought my ticket about 6 months ago.

Not sure about Groenkloof, want to go check it out on Saturday morning. Trying to find out what it looks like these days there on a Saturday morning from a safety point of view.

Wolwespruit is only open in the afternoon, however, there is a security guard there 24/7. Perhaps if you organise with the guys at Tool up they might let the security guard open for you and let you ride in the mornings.

Groenkloof is relatively safe during the week if you avoid the northern triangle of the park, this is the area bordered by Fountains and the R21. Criminals are using the squatter camp below Unisa as their base to raid Fountains, Groenkloof, Voortrekker Monument as well as smash and grabs at the circle. They raided the squatter camp on Thursday last week but I haven't had an update on that yet.

At this stage Klapperkop is the safest of the lot if you frequent it during 6:00 and 8:00 in the morning and 16:30 and sunset as it is being patrolled by Hi Risk security and occasionally by the CPF at these times, you will also see a number of police actions during the day. Recent attacks at Klapperkop have taken place after dark on sight seers and I would recommend that you do not train in the area after the sun sets. There are groups coordinating their rides in Klapperkop using the Fort Klapperkop Cycling & Running Whatsapp group 072 136 2911 you can ask to join it but you will be subjected to a bit of security check.

This is good to know. Wanted to go ride Klapperkop yesterday afternoon, but when my riding buddy cancelled I couldn't go, but it's reassuring that there are patrols there at that time, so I could go alone next time

Having done Wolwespruit a couple of times I can tell you that the trails on Klapperkop are a bigger challenge. Not that Wolwespruit are easy its just that the new Klapperkop trails are really technical and by my guess you're in for at least 30kms of proper mtbiking.
