Swim.Bike.Run Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Hi All, Is there a reliable free android app that loads gpx files and navigates successfully (based on the gpx files)? If not, is there a reliable paid android app that loads gpx files and navigates successfully (based on the gpx files)? Thanks in advance!
greatwhite Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 If you come up with an answer, I'd be interested to hear. I notice a number of people are following too, so I guess I'm not the only one.

Goosebay Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Fiddled a bit with open source maps a long time ago - then not always easy. But am going to give this a go and see what it can do. I use trekbuddy - there is no vocal guidance - you have to follow a line on your phone. easy to access your gpx file. You have to create your own maps and calibrate them. I haven't figured out how to use layers so I can't zoom yet, but I have created two maps, as overview and detailed. Once you download or create a map you then calibrate and then cut it into slices for faster use on your phone. I have gci maps for overberg, tokai, conters, jonkers, eden, george dh and xc, karkloof. If you like this kind of thing cool, but it does take time to learn these prgrammes. paying for a nav app def easier - but less fun:)

capediver Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Try Orux Maps...the only one I found that rotates map with option for Head Up instead of only N up.Maps are all onboard so no mobile data link required. Can export gpx to a number of other resources, No TBT directions but easy to follow uploaded tracks.....http://www.oruxmaps.com/index_en.html
Grebel Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Have a look at OsmAnd I have reasonable success using Google Earth to plot a route using way points. Save that as a KMZ file and export to GPX Using Garmin Basecamp (if I recall...) Transfer to the specified folder on your phone and you are sorted.
