Can someone please explain to me why it is not allowed to wear sleeveless shirts during an event???

14.02.001 Footwear shall be fully enclosed

14.02.002 A competitor must wear appropriate riding attire, including a shirt with sleeves of a minimum short sleeve standard which reaches half way from shoulder to elbow.

14.02.003 Eye protection is strongly recommended.

14.02.004 Wearing of a helmet which meets minimum ANSI/European standards is mandatory during training and racing, and should be able to absorb severe shock.

Sjoe I didn't even know about that rule. Luckily I don't own such shirts but will be interesting to find out.

PS: aren't we lucky no one from VA yesterday had a sleeveless shirt, imagine getting a DQ.............

I have been riding sleeveless for almost a decade, my wife also has a sleeveless one piece she rides in

ALL OF A SUDDEN yesterday at the Ashburton Dullstroom event, it is illegal to ride sleeveless, what bull is this now?

I have never heard of this, read up this morning and found the quoted text above...

I do not understand the reasoning behind it???

It's been a rule for a couple of years, but it is not applied rigorously. My understanding is that it comes from some UCI rule and was adapted by CSA. Hence it's more from a road race perspective, but applied to the different UCI codes.

Sorry "long wheel base", I’m just really upset about this!

No problem. Don't worry I know how you feel. I, along with majority of the VA field at R4V yesterday got DQ'd. Except we did know that rule and had been warned. BUT like you say you've done it for so long AND others have done it so why only now and why just you? We where the only group to get DQ'd despite all the other licensed groups doing it.

Seems CSA was out with a mission yesterday. It's good, I'm not complaining but keep it consistent and all the time.

There was a time when you were only allowed to wear white socks. And if you check, I think it also says you have to wear socks.

There was a thread on this 3 years ago. Long and short, its in the rule book and it will stop your shoulders from getting skin cancer. :)

... its called sun block...

and why aren’t we then forced to wear long sleeved shirts and pants? if your shoulder burns, your arm will burn as well... that does not make sense too me...

What really cheesed me off more about this...

I rode the Ashburton Dullstroom Marathon on Saturday, (sleeveless as usual) and the only comment that was made in the starting pen is... "aren’t you cold"?

then yesterday my wife was personally taken on in the starting pen of the FUN RIDE because she was not wearing sleeves....
