Hi guys

am loooking to buy a rockshox reverb stealth (internal routing) dropper seat post for a 2016 specialized camber comp 29er ali frame off chain reactions

need some advice!

you have to choose the specs of the dropper post and i dont know what to choose:

here are the specs for the camber:

seatpost diameter: 30.9mm

seatbinder: 34.9mm

seatpost length: 430mm

seat tube length: 468mm

so my question is, should i order the reverb according to the exact specs of seatpost diameter and seatpost length?

2nd question: will the reverb stealth be compatible with a camber?

there is an extra hole for a cable to feed out of near the headset but will this hole be big enough for the dropper post cable?

any help would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to the Hub!

Firstly, the hose is a normal brake hose, so it should fit just fine.

Insofar as the dimensions of the dropper go - you order according to the Seat Tube Diameter (internal) which in your case is 30.9mm. That's the hole it needs to fit in, so it needs to be that diameter in order to fit properly.

For the length - this is where it gets tricky, and can vary from frame to frame depending on the design of the seat tube. The Camber has a kink in the seat tube, so the 468mm measurement isn't a TRUE 468mm as that's not how far you can stick the dropper in.

Also - the 430mm measurement is how long the dropper is when fully extended.

What you need to find out is your theoretical maximum seatpost length, for your height and frame design.

First, measure how much seatpost is sticking out of the frame, measuring from the seat rails to the seat tube. Take that measurement down. Then see how far you can stick your existing seatpost into the seat tube without it going any further, then mark it (on the tube itself, where it meets the frame) and take that measurement - from the mark to the bottom of the seatpost.

If that measurement is more than 435mm, then you can order that length dropper.

I don't foresee it being a problem though, as the kink in the seat tube is very low down, so you should be able to get all the lower portion of the dropper in there without it fouling on the kink.

I am not sure that the frame is "stealth ready".  The frame has to be built to take internal cable routing for the seatpost - otherwise go with the external cable Reverb.

Spez don't make externally routed droppers anymore, so the 2016 range will all have stealth routing.

All carbon models are completely free and clear with even the rear brake hose routed through the frame. The alloy model has all but the brake hose internal.

AJ, does your frame have the removable plate on the down tube, near the BB? Can you see If you can get around the BB?

None of the Ali camber models have dropper, but the stumpies do, and from what I see they actually share the front triangle.

Just confirmed. Stumpy alloy ALSO has the M5 trail chassis, with the only difference on the frame between the Camber and the Stumpy being the rear triangle and the kit bolted on.

So yes, it WILL be possible to route a dropper, but you may have to enlarge the hole a bit as it's meant for a cable rather than the hydraulic hose, which is a bit thicker than a cable.

Maybe see if you can get the command post... very good option as well

Okay, AJ. Definitive word from the guys at Spaz (helps when you know the guys)

A reverb hose Will NOT fit the hole. If you make it bigger, it WILL invalidate the warranty. The only post that fits is the Command post.

Go for that one. It is just as good.

Talk about make our frames so they only fit our parts, let's make the hole what must be like just on 1mm to small for a reverb hose. That is taking it quite far!

Isn't there a rubber grommet you can remove to make the reverb cable fit?

Is the Spez post pretty much the only one that is thin enough to fit stock?

I'm willing to bet that since the Command Post is cable actuated, the Lev Integra with an aftermarket cable housing would work as well, seeing as it's also cable actuated, albeit with a steroid guffing stock cable housing.

The hole (from what I can see) is moulded / brazed / whatever into the frame, so it needs to be drilled or milled in order for the ever so slightly thicker hydraulic hose to fit through.

But yes. Proprietary fittings be damned. But then all stumpies come with dropper already installed, and the front triangle is a common part, and from what I've heard (yet to be confirmed though) the Command Post is a solidly priced well performing piece of kit, which one can spec at point of sale or from a Spaz outlet. So I can see the logic. It's muddy, but it's there.

If you don't want the Command Post, why don't you go for a Reverb with external routing?

The Command Post is a great dropper - I have the 3 position one which I bought for the fact that you always know exactly where the seat will be when dropped. The current one has 10 positions I believe.

I can't really comment on the new Command Post, but I'm not a fan of the old one, and there are certainly better ways of burning R 6k.

For cable actuated alternatives try the KS Lev Integra as Mayhem suggested, or the Giant Contact which can be either internally or externally routed - although it only has 100mm of drop.
