People think you are joking, but in fact this is true. I wonder how strict it will be to meet that criteria or targets! either way I will be getting one.

You need to meet 4 of your "weekly goals" each month. If not, you pay in the following month. 2 year deal, R 6k list price. 0% loan, effectively. hit 0 goals in a month, you pay in R 250. Hit 1, you pay R 175. Hit 2, you pay R 100. Hit 3, pay R 50. hit more than 3, and you pay nada (I think those are the figures, at least)

 

VERY good option, and they get an absolute shedload of data, whilst at the same time convincing their members to get fitter / more healthy. 

 

It starts off with you having to get a certain amount of points each week. 150 / 200 / 400 / whatever. Then it increases gradually. My current "weekly goal" is 200 points. That's done with a 30 minute "workout" or a gym visit and a bit to spare. Also links to Strava, so every ride / run counts for points. 

 

It may eventually ratchet up to the point that you need to do 5 workouts a week, but that's only a good thing for their bottom line... Healthier members mean less claims.

My Garmin running watch has a pedometer... My daughter saw my watch in the bathroom the other day and needing some entertainment while she was dropping the kids at school she sat there and shook it continuously to see how many steps she could get in 5 minutes (I had Explained to her previously how it works).... Had a good chuckle at that......crapping is hard work...

Don't have one nor do i want one BUT

 

I think they have merit for your average non sporty person who is not active at all (at work or home). One function i like is if you can set it to keep reminding you to move i.e. if you sit all day at a desk at work and it senses when you been sitting for to long and then lights / vibrates / beeps telling you to get up and move...

Ahh but you are wrong there, you have a V800 dont you?

My wife is lost without her fitbit, I wasnt sure how much she would use it but never actually takes it off. Been using it for two years now.

When she is short on steps for the day then she jogs on the spot while watching tv. 

So in her respect it works exactly like it should, I know of many people who dont wear theirs anymore and couldnt be bothered to get their steps in each day.

If u on discovery vitality, with the garmin vivofit, if u walk 10000 steps a day u get 150 vitality points, im not sure of the accuracy though of these devices.

And I would walk 10000 steps... And I would walk 10000 more...

A friend drove to his farm on a very bad corrugated dirt road the other day......his wrist thingymagic indicated a record 10,000 steps in 30min......

.....just shake it all off.

I recorded 15000 steps on my Mio without leaving the house a few months back...

Ahh but you are wrong there, you have a V800 dont you?

Yebo BUT.... its way better than fitness band BUT  i only use it during sport i.e. running, cycling, swimming. 

 

I once wore it for 2 weeks non stop just to see how the activity thing worked and that's where i saw the benefit of being reminded by the watch to get up and move...its shocking how much time i spend sitting at a desk...

The reminding you to move thing can be great, in my case its annoying because I have a colleague who has one, so when it reminds him to move he skips down the passage to my office and pops in to annoy me while Im trying to work!

 

I still think the V800 might be the most complete package in terms of the big 3 GPS tracker watches.

I reckon the top of the line fitness watches (not the step counting type bands) that use a built-in optical heart rate sensor to measure heart rate from the contact at your wrist (wearing a hr strap whilst not participating in a sports activity is probably a pain), can probably be a lot more accurate and useful. One could get a better, more accurate idea of every day caloric consumption, based on heart rate, over and above sports/physical activity, and thereby structure eating plans/diet a bit more accurately.

Tonight i was cursing it for a few minutes, big update last night  when i connected last nights and then tonight my heart rate would not register.... took me a few minutes to work out i had put on the wrong HR strap :blush:

How many watches have that type of sensor, I think the Tomtom one does that but i heard its not that reliable? But yes it would be first prize not to have to wear a HR strap ever again and still be able to get reliable heart rate data all day / night
