How many watches have that type of sensor, I think the Tomtom one does that but i heard its not that reliable? But yes it would be first prize not to have to wear a HR strap ever again and still be able to get reliable heart rate data all day / night

All of the optical ones use the Mio readers, Im not convinced that they are all that great yet though. Polar still leads with being able to read heartrate when swimming. I know others can record it and sync when out of the water but they cant do it in realtime.

What would be a good option for me to get for the missus?

She now and then takes a run, or a walk, would like to at least see distance and time?  Heart rate not really necessary?  o and easy to see the data?

same.

You need to meet 4 of your "weekly goals" each month. If not, you pay in the following month. 2 year deal, R 6k list price. 0% loan, effectively. hit 0 goals in a month, you pay in R 250. Hit 1, you pay R 175. Hit 2, you pay R 100. Hit 3, pay R 50. hit more than 3, and you pay nada (I think those are the figures, at least)

VERY good option, and they get an absolute shedload of data, whilst at the same time convincing their members to get fitter / more healthy.

It starts off with you having to get a certain amount of points each week. 150 / 200 / 400 / whatever. Then it increases gradually. My current "weekly goal" is 200 points. That's done with a 30 minute "workout" or a gym visit and a bit to spare. Also links to Strava, so every ride / run counts for points.

It may eventually ratchet up to the point that you need to do 5 workouts a week, but that's only a good thing for their bottom line... Healthier members mean less claims.

I would prefer if it was linked to activities and not points, I max out the points in March, rest of the year its those bonus 50 points only... lame...

Fitness points allocation (EXCLUDING fitness assessements) is being increased to 30,000 p/a as of Jan. Makes it FAR easier for those more active to get their points allocations...

I would guess that it works similarly to the current Vitality Active Rewards. Most A lot of active people max out in the first term second term. Especially mega boosters such as parkrun and other paid events. After 15000 30000 points they don't contribute towards your "Vitality Status", but they are still recognised in programmes like the Vitality Active Rewards - which will be used for the Glorious Master Fitness Device Apple Watch.

For example: a Parkrun and 4 other exercises would usually give me 500 + 4x(150+50) = 1300 points for the Vitality Active Rewards, but only 4x50 for the Vitality Status.

Edit: some details

It's changing as of 1st Jan. Your max fitness points (ex fitness assessments) moves to 30,000 p/a

I recently bought the Garmin Forerunner 225 which also uses the Mio optical sensor.

I have tested it a few times against my chest strep whilst on the indoor trainer and I was very surprised at how accurate it is. I have read reports that it isnt as accurate when you are at the limit but the 225 was within 1 or 2 beats of the Edge 810 the entire workout, so I am happy!!!

My point remains. Only difference is you max out June-ish? How will you continue to pay off the Glorious Master Fitness Device Apple Watch with only bonus fitness points? Well, you don't.

Sorry - yes - you're right. It's paid off through the VA Rewards, which is the vehicle that it's being launched through. Activities may not count for points, but they will ALWAYS count for your weekly goals.

Very happy about this, I always max mine out quite early in the year. Parkrun alone gets it maxed in a few months.

Okay - Update on the Vitality Apple Watch promotion thing.

1 - YOU NEED TO HAVE A DISCOVERY CREDIT CARD WITH A FACILITY OF R 6,000 AVAILABLE!!!

2 - R 6,000 will be "reserved" for the watch, and each month the "reserved value" will decrease by R 250 (R 6,000 / 24 months) and you will be debited according to how many fitness goals you achieve in that month

3 - Soft Cap of 1,200 points per week - this is how many Vitality Active points you will eventually need to tally each week in order to meet your Fitness Goal. If you are using the watch, your HR will be recorded automatically, which will enable you to get up to 3,000 points for a single workout based on time and exertion. For comparative purposes, if you walk for 30 min and upload with Strava (which can be linked to the Vitality Active app) you get 200 points. So even if you only walk 6 times a week for 30 min each, you should reach your weekly goal. If you hit your allocated step count every day, you should hit the 1,200 soft cap. This cap DOES NOT LIMIT YOUR TOTAL POINTS EARNED. It's JUST the cap to which your required weekly activity points will get to when determining what your weekly "goal" is.

4 - One Watch per Vitality Membership ie per family.

5 - R 350 activation fee

I'll post more as I learn more.

Why only one watch per family?

I have the Mio so I suppose it will go to the wife.

Not too worry. I think the Hub's classifieds will be full of Apple Watches if you need an extra one.
