Mntboy Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 He was in the way of a planned attack on the group...Umm doesn't blocking imply that you're ahead of the person being blocked? Also this from CN - Majka tries to come through to take the KOM points at the top of the climb, but Froome and Poels block the way and accelerate to prevent the Pole. So I don't see how Majka was in the way of a move by Froome. Either way what's done is done. Let's enjoy the racing that remains over the next two weeks. Tuesday seems along way off!
Frosty Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Well, those time gaps weren't enormous, but that certainly gave us a really good look at the GC contenders. Froome looks assured, Quintana kept his powder dry, Martin looked attacking, Yates looks really impressive for his age, Porte looks strong but cracked on while BMC's highest-placed GC rider Van Garderen floundered. Cracks of weakness appeared in Aru and were further exposed in Barguil. The BMC plan of coming sixth and seventh overall is coming together perfectly.@EdwardPickering Sun, 10th Jul 2016 15:34:17

Vetseun Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 I listened to 50km of Phil Liggit calling the riders the wrong names, waiting for Quintana to attack.Faark, Im still waiting.
scotty Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Nice Froome, no panic and nothing for your critics to be exited about
tombeej Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Ag this quintana is starting to annoy me.. Following wheels won't win you a tour Couldn't agree more, Gen. He's become like a wart stuck to Froome's backside. Folks can say what they want about Sky, but what I'm seeing is that team doing all the racing at the moment. They're making the plays & working beautifully as a unit. Besides a few individuals like Bardet and Dan-The-Man, the rest of this peloton is about as useful as tits on a bull. Froome is like The Pied Piper, playing a tune while the procession of mesmerised rats follow behind in a long line. Sky are far from boring. Can't say the same for most of the rest.

With a team as strong as Sky you need to get seconds wherever you can.. and following wheels isn't how to go about it.
HappyMartin Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 I think Quintana is going to wait. I think he is hoping he recovers better and tires less over the three weeks. That is what appeared to happen last year with Quintana taking time back from Froome. It wasn't enough last year. Perhaps it will be this year. Dan Martin, Adam Yates, Richie Porte all look more inspired and ready to race. Froome looks relaxed and confidant. Quintana looks tense and under enormous pressure. Person I'm currently watching with the most interest is our own Meintjies. He is looking good. Pacing himself well. I hope he holds out and creeps up the leader board. Perhaps strong enough to do something in the Alps. That would be awesome. Wonderful to see him in the top ten.
tombeej Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 I honestly thought we were going to see a major play by Movistar when they put 2 riders into the break. I was getting all excited at the idea of a mini showdown to close out the first week. To be fair, my reading of Movistar's tactics is that they're following Ali's tactics against Foreman: sit in and let the hits come but don't respond. Do nothing and just wait them out. When the opponent has tired himself out at the end of the 3rd week then launch the big counter attack. They've said before in the media that they see Froome's weakness as being the fact that he seems to tire in the 3rd week. But then again, Sky leave nothing to chance. They know it too. And just like Quintana has been training specifically for Froome's style of attacking, I am certain Brailsford, Ellingworth and the rest of the Sky brains trust have been training specifically for the 3rd week as well.

Frosty Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Usually the last few guys drop out the Tour and the time gaps to the last rider is less. But perhaps the guys fighting for the Lantern Rouge could use a motor or two... https://twitter.com/TdFStats/status/752185921173422082

Cav' Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Movistar and Astana should work together to crack Sky in my opinion. I like Porte, he just makes such stupid decisions on a bike. Martin pushing for a podium spot and I really hopes he gets it. (He has the most balls of the current rivals) Yates looking good like said. Still a hell of a long way to Paris, I'm certain there will be "that one" stage in the Alps where chaos will break loose.
