I actually think that may be Roman Kreuzinger little girl that Sagan's wife is holding.. seem to recall seeing pics of the little one in their team bus with he dad.

Yip indeed it is lol

Lol that's actually quite cool. Outside of Sagz and Beefy Berto, Kreuziger is the one other guy at Tinkoff I like.

Cannondale had a photo of Pierre Roland with his daughter, Jade. Apparently her name is also written on his bike too. Love that the teams allow family to visit the rider's on the rest day. Helps with motivation I would think.

How Sky’s brutal climbing tactics work, http://velonews.competitor.com/2016/07/tour-de-france/how-skys-brutal-climbing-tactics-work_415421

“I would not like to race against our team,” Poels told VeloNews. “The team is riding really well. You saw today we have all the guys there to help Chris.”

“You do a pace, so if they attack, you can still react also,” Poels said. “You put it high enough so that they others are on their limit, and make it difficult for them to attack, but you also save just a little bit.”

So how do they do it? Poels explained they set a rhythm just below their threshold, leaving a bit in the tank to grind down any would-be aggressors. Poels will often be the one chasing down the attacks, like when Quintana went early on Mont Ventoux. He can cover one or two hard accelerations, and then it’s game over.

All this elite tactic stuff is confusing for me, so can I ask a question? If the rest of the team take turns at just below threshold, and that leaves Froome able to fight it out in the last 1-2 km, why wouldn't a Froome wheel-sucker be able to also fight it out, particularly as they didn't do any work at the front? Is it due to Froome's natural ability ie he may just be better than the wheel-sucker? Or is it because the team are riding specifically around Froome's threshold?

Tough guy of the day... so many stories in Le Tour away from the GC.

"Bora-Argon 18’s Shane Archbold suffered a high speed crash while descending on stage 17 of the Tour de France, so hard it snapped his bike frame in two, but he still managed to ride 70 kilometres to the day’s summit finish."

"I’ve never seen somebody go through so much pain – he’s so hard it’s unbelievable,” said his team-mate Sam Bennett, who rode with him to the finish."

Sky do show dedication unlike some other teams who are split, even when Froome was support for Wiggins in 2012 TDF this showed.

Highest level of professionalism, and not a clinch in their armour  (so far). Not only do they have the budget to do this, but the right people.

It's not so much a case of teams that are devided..more like the team SKY selected for TDF know almost 6 months in advance and the TDF is their only goal.. so you have a team arriving at the TDF that have prepared to all be in the right form for the TDF.

So not only do they have their GC guys in top form but the rest are too.

If you look at the yellow jersey group yesterday..there were actually quite a lot of GC guys still there towards the end... so the pace was yes tough but not that tough that leaders of teams were dropping off like flies (before the Porte attack) which makes me think that their isn't such a huge difference between them.. the only difference is that Sky have the numbers.. and those numbers are just as strong as the other GC guys..

Man.. still think you guys need to listen to the podcast.. they had some great interviews yesterday.. even an interview with the Cheese and one with Mrs Sagan.

Setting a pace just below their own threshold certainly seems to be working. Plus, as with the  Postal/Discovery team years before them, they are dedicated to one man exclusively.

This tactic works in the favour of Maincheese, as he likes to just sit there and pedal to a rhythm. He does not seem to like quick accelerations. So he just sits there following the pace of Sky, while watching as his competition starts blowing up one after another. Except Yates off course.

Yeah.. as in the interview I listened to Meintjes is happy with things as they are and is not going to risk anything on an attack.

Good question! My opinion, the Sky team is just too strong with many top riders and specific training and one clear goal. And also, I do think Froome is the best-prepared specifically fir the Tour and combined with his ability and team makes him the strongest.

It's a vague answer, but will think and research more after work. Enjoy the TT!
