Patchelicious Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 it's quite sad really, the general vibe of comments on this thread that "my riding style is all that matters" and that there is no point in trying to have a meaningful discussion on how to get a few hundred people to enjoy a trail at the same time. perhaps mtb has become that sport where nobody is allowed to have fun or get along... golf or lawn bowls anyone? So what suggestion do you have to make it enjoyable for everybody.
Patchelicious Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 I wonder what Swen Lauer would say about this.

I can imagine many people would moan about players who take too long between ends...
Tumbleweed Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 At least with lawn bowls one end has a bar... A bar end...
Eldron Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Chill out and enjoy the ride. Tu dah. Problem solved. If you suck at climbing then you know you're never gonna get clean single track. If you suck at single track then know you're gonna have people breathing your neck on anything technical.
edgarblount Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 At least with lawn bowls one end has a bar... A bar end... Bar none, lawn bowls is not for me...
Tumbleweed Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Bar none, lawn bowls is not for me... Ever tried full-contact bowls?
Thor Buttox Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 If you dont like riding behind people, come ride with the roadies, we will let you ride in front all day... And Patch takes the conversation into the gutter... I am average up hills and very average down the single track... I better not enter a stage race, ever!
Paul Ruinaard Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 It comes down to the same thing every time, I can't commit to get fit or loose weight, so OTHERS must work on their skills to make my race more enjoyable I didn't know you knew me so well.... My sentiments exactly. At events (when I do go and ride) I spend a lot of time off line in the bushes on the descents continually screaming at the folks to get out my way. And then apologizing on the following ascent. And some people think I am rude.
edgarblount Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Ever tried full-contact bowls? Nah. Only played touchies lawn bowls once before. The oomies at the Edenvale Rolbal Klub had some serious skills, going up or down.
Escapee.. Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Ever tried full-contact bowls? As in MMF? No eye contact, is rule # 1 according to Vetseun

rudi-h Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 So what suggestion do you have to make it enjoyable for everybody. Mix up the format on stage races to throw in a bit of XCO, marathon, enduro etc. into the course, perhaps with different criteria to seed riders for different days / stages. For example, there are at least 2 road races that I know of (Jock classic and Kremetart) where there are even multiple stages within a single day. What about riding up a hill (stage 1); racing down (stage 2); and a hilly fast sprint to the finish (stage 3) or something along those lines... if races demand different riding styles, people will be more likely to try to become better at it all. nobody's fault at the moment, but i think it could spice things up.
