They could have at least given us longer cable ties. Mine barely made it round.

You must tie ur number board around ur handle bars with the cable tíes and not your saddle hey.

I wanted a goodie bag too, just to complain about the contents, no other reason really... On a more serious note, I'm sweeping the 30km tomorrow. Usually I get a few chain links and a tube or 2 for just in case. Please carry your own spares as I sure as hell would not have your specific hanger in my Camelbak and after the first 2 punctures I am out of spare tubes too. I supply rehidrat and some energy bars for the stragglers out of my own pocket.

Enjoy ladies and gents!

The 30km was a load of fun. I was kept busy though. 3 broken chains, 5 flats and a suspected broken collar bone. It amazes me how little some know about their bikes. The utter amazement when you produce a quick link to fix a chain, or when you remove a tyre and the sealant is dried up. Most people had the basics with them, but I still think the following is a must:

Tyre levers

Spare tube (slimed)

Multi tool WITH A CHAIN BREAKER

Good pump

Chain link

Cable ties

I usually also carry:

Leatherman

Duct tape

Tubeless repair kit

CO2 inflator

Chain lube

Spare cleat and bolts.

Set of brake pads

Just a word of warning. The start parking is very thorny, so rather push / carry your bike into the chute.

Loved the 30K and super amped for the 55K tomorrow. The loose sand on the single track at Uitkyk will cause some bottlenecks, not sure what condition the rest of the ST is in.

I'm quite happy with my time of just under 1h30 and 9th position over all, came first in 35~39 age group. The 30 minute warm-up ride I have from Welgevonden to the start really does help.

Suffered a tyre blow out as I think I must have hit a sharp rock then the freaking tyre couldn't set on the rim after using two bombs so put a tube in which punctured again. Thanks to the old man who gave me his bomb and some sealant. I ended up doing 20km in the end. Eventful but lotsa fun.

One thing I will say is the single track towards the end people just ended up dead stopping in the middle of the track which was a bit dangerous for those behind. Twice I almost crashed. But still lotsa fun.

My wife rode with my youngest son today in the 15km.  He eventually rode away from her, and in her attempt to stay with him, rode herself into 2nd place for women.

I was supporting my other son at the XCO Cup race at Helderberg.

We are both now tired.  Our sons, not so much.

So I was totally amped for my first MTB event today and felt damn good on the track and then this happened which forced me to not finish the race. :cursing:  Needless to say it was a walk back to the car.

Geoff how is it that your rear derailer sits so close to the front derailer, I have 2 Meridas and both their rear derailers sits by the cassette? [emoji85] That is a bad way to exit a race, sorry man.

Damn that's bad! Next time try this( not tried myself yet so go easy on me) : shorten chain and fit on middle rear gear, should still have front shift for extra gear to finish race! Experts ??

That reminds me I need to replace my RD soon, after 10,000km that XT is struggling to get all the way down to 11t.

Both me and my dad have had RD crashes like that after transporting our bikes. Make sure nothing pushes against the RD in transport as that will bend the hanger and it will end up in the wheel when shifting to your lowest rear gear. Been there, cried about that.
