Hub choice for custom wheelset

Please help me.

I'am in the process of getting a custom wheelset build up.  Now I have done some research and holy moly there are so many hubs out there.  It will be for lefty, so the front does not matter really as I will most likely stick with cannondale SI

it is for a 142x12mm through axle.

What I came across are the following:

Industry Nine Torch :  120 point of engagement.  that must sound like a swarm of bees.

White Ind CLD :  Titanium freewheel body.  24 point of engagement.

Project 321 : same internal as Industry nine, also a lefty option.

Tune Kong :  they tend to be light

DTswiss 240s with ratchet system.

Chris King, but they do get a little heavy.

I'am confused.  I'am looking for reliability and ease of servicing.

any other options.  At the moment I lean towards the White Ind CLD.

Chris king.

Basic service doesn't need special tools.

Next choice would be dt Swiss 240s.

These hubs are well-proven with the basic layout and design sorted out years ago

I'am so glad someone else also like the dtswiss 240s hubs.  I have them on my 10 year old scott scale and they just don't give any problems.

1. Hope - great value for money, can be adapted to just about any "standard", parts are readily available

2. I9 - super fast engagement, good value for money (especially compared to CK or Tune), parts are available, can be adapted to just about any standard, local distributor is super jacked.

Tune hubs are very lightweight.  How reliable are they, and service wise?

Are you planning to use these for the Epic?

Try to stay with something that has more guaranteed parts availability in the service village than the esoteric ones - so DTSwiss will have support, as will Hope (although you are unlikely to need it)

If you do go with something esoteric, then consider bringing a spare bearing/seal set with you.

Me - I am going with Hopes for the Epic - the same ones I have used there twice before (and a J2C) - but they are going on new rims for next year.

They are as reliable as any other lightweight parts out there. They recommend their own tools but you can use most good quality bearing tools.

Yes I 'am doing the Epic.  I've done it in 2013 on ztr arch with standard sun ringle dirty flea hub, but i'am in the process of getting some nice hoops and want to make sure I make the right choice regarding the hubs  I'am going to get those South Industries hoops.

Did you look at the PYGA hoops?

Chat to Jason at the Trailhead about his hands on comparison between the 2 - he has more experience with them than I do - but I tend to agree with him. Especially about Enve hoops :)

Yeah. They don't compare. The South hoops are miles ahead in quality.
