I had a puncture going down the back of Helshoogte and lost my group 1c.

after that i found the 2 b & c group and decided to sit back and enjoy the ride, climbed the hills, had some fun in the bunch and in the rolling hills.

How do you move from Q to 1C in less than a year? What's your secret cos despite going faster my seeding seems to stay in the same place

Where do I leave the cheque?

That's your problem, nobody uses cheques any more!!

Cash send...

This year was my first time riding the Stellenbosch Cycle Tour. I found it to be a rather lovely ride and will definately be back next year.

Started in 1C and did some work up front with a few of the guys resulting in a 2:43. Great day out on the bike!

That was my dad (TinyK's father-in-law). From what we could gather from what others told him is that the corsa got impatient sitting behind truck in right hand lane and overtook - not being able to see past truck as he went and hit him. Learner driver too. He's got compression fracture in T12 and L1.

If anybody saw it happen and can give a statement it will be greatly appreciated as their version of the story is that he swerved in front if the car.....yet the car was stopped slightly diagonally in the lane.

UPDATE:

Thanks for all the well wishes, my dad is doing OK under the circumstances. He's got an appointment with a Neurologist tomorrow, and until then he has to keep fairly still.

We have managed to track down an eyewitness who saw it all. While my dad was lying in the road he took a photo, in which was a cyclist standing by the car to prevent a possible quick getaway - got his details from the organizers with his race number.

The driver was definitely at fault and my dad will probably be opening a case against him.

Stellenbosch Cycle Tour Rules:

2.6 Every rider shall keep as far to the left of the road surface as is safe having regard to the circumstances and conditions.

2.24 Elite, Ladies and veteran group riders shall in addition comply with all applicable UCI rules and regulations which can be found at www.cyclingsa.com

Cycling SA rules:

3.28.1 All cyclists shall at all times adhere to the keep left rule throughout the race. Cyclists may only use the left lane for the Race, even on a double lane road, unless full road closure or rolling closure has been approved and enforced by the relevant authorities.

3.36 RIDER CONDUCT DURING COMPETITION

3.36.1 Centre Line

3.36.1.1 If a course is not closed to traffic, all competitors must keep to the left of the centre line. Following a course of action may be taken against offenders.

3.36.1.2 Relegation or disqualification for advancing position or attacking for no reason on the Right hand side of the road.

3.36.1.3 Warning for accidental crossing of the centre line with no advancement on position.

3.36.1.4 The commissaire reserves the right to stop or cancel the race if the safety of the riders of the race is compromised.

With the above rules and regulations in place, this is what happened on Sunday in the elite race (this is less a judgement on the riders, and more a comment on the incompetence of the race commissaires):

(What white line?)

After getting dropped, I asked the commissaire in the car about the white line, and he just laughed at me.

The lack of noise from the riders about what went down in the Elite bunch on Sunday annoys me the most. We shouldn't stand for officiating like this!

looks like a race in Europe and hey doing well...

nah this is a serious issue! it wasnt much different in the % bunch and all seemed so normal! Not getting dropped seemed more important than not getting hit by oncoming trucks

1 nervy race to i am thankful i finished!

It seems that the bunch sizes are similar to CTCT now, isn't it.

Since the renaming and restructuring of race parameters to SCT...

I raced last year and, without full road closure, these bunch sizes are just crazy

And when merges happen, it is even crazier and riskier

I'm unsure I'll race it again
