Paint job cracking, but why?

Hi Hubbers.

Hope someone can help me with a problem I have.

I got home today and decided to give my trusty steed some TLC, on closer inspection I noticed the paint work showing cracks.

Is this something I should worry about and what would cause the paint to crack like this?

Normally the merida on the bikes is a decal under clear coat, so I don't think that's the paint, but could be wrong. Not sure what could cause this though, but could be worth seekingn a warranty claim if still covered

"Looks" like decal cracks, could be a reaction happening wayyyy too many cracks to be frame/structure issue, should be covered by warranty,

My experience play nice first, sweets makes the muti go down easier, be a tool from the get go there could be 100 escape clauses for a warranty

Good luck

Expansion and contraction from heating and cooling coupled with oxidisation. Bike frames need to be waxed to maintain that top notch factory fresh finish.

Do you perhaps store it in a room that gets sauna hot during the day and then freezing cold at night?

Thanks Dips, unfortunately its a second hand bike so I don't think the warranty is still valid. Will mail them anyway and see what they say.

Never thought of that, I have a flat so the only place I have for my Bike is on the balcony.  :( Probably my own doing then.

Sorry to hear, the elements cause plenty of damage to components, frames and tyres. If your big has to be outside, cover it with some thing OR beg your wife for a dedicated bike room.

Thanks guys, will make sure its gets put to bed in a safer place. Maby I can look at this as a new re spray project.  ^_^

Im still waiting for one of those opportunities.

Would love to get some Bogus action happening on my bikes!

Unless it's flaking or lifting off the paint should still be totally sound, I'd get some high quality carnauba car wax from meguairs or similar, expensive (around R250 abottle) but lasts for years and works like a champion.
