Anybody?

Any of the hotels along the front.  The start/finish line is the suncoast hotel, transition area is one of the car parks.  So if you stay at one of the seafront hotels or just behind the promenade between suncoast and Ushaka Marine, you can walk/cycle to transition area to check in/check-out

Anybody?

I will probably be staying in the South Beach tsogo sun hotel. Its cheapish and ok and about 3 kays from start. Catch a ride in the Avis cars in the morning an cycle back afterwards.

Elangeni and maharani still have space but they more expesnive.

I am looking forward to this event, having missed it last year due to injury. I am however finding it tough to get my motivation up for training after Ironman. I did the Maluti double 90 this weekend (very tough event by the way!) and really really struggled. I am also not hitting the same speeds with my running and swimming when compared to before IM. Maybe I am still carrying some fatigue or maybe I am just lazy.

I am in the same boat more or less. I think after the absolute highs of ironman its difficult to get motivation for another event so soon afterwards. Its also getting colder.

Also, one does carry fatigue. I have cut hours to around 8 to 10 a week but am sluggish as you describe. I think I need to cut down more.

The Durban course is easyish in the scheme of things but I battled last year cos I was cocksure after IM and it cost me loads of time. Must prevent the same complacency from creeping in.

So, in a nutshell, a lil fatigue, a lil laziness is what it is :)

just following out of interest.  Just a question, for the swimming, if you don't have a nice indoor heated pool available, do you do other open water swims in your wetsuit, or wetsuit pool swimming?  does the chlorine have an negative impact on the wetsuit?  Ta

Yes it does if you dont clean it, just give it a good rinse after the pool session

Many practice swim with wetsuits at my gym pool.  As has already been said, take the suit and rinse it in the bath or shower at home afterwards

Ok cool thank you.  I will be looking at purchasing my first suit and only have an outdoor pool to practice, so just wanted to be sure I will be able to.

Thanks again

This time of year, would definitely do outdoor swims in a wetsuit !!

Is just convenient to practice wetsuit swims in the gym pool, and many do use the heated pool and a wetsuit, however I only swim in a wetsuit on race day

If I were you I would most definately do open water swimming with the wetsuit and steer clear of the pools with chlorine. Long term submersion in chlorine will definately eat away at your wetsuit.

From xterrawetsuits.co.za

"XTERRA WETSUITS does not recommend swimming in a chlorinated pool with your wetsuit. In fact, swimming in a chlorinated pool with your wetsuit can void the warranty and return/exchange policy. Chlorine accelerates the deterioration of the gluing on wetsuits. If the pool is salt water, not chlorine, then jump in with your wetsuit on!

Normally we do not recommend the use of our wetsuits in chlorinated pools, however, if extenuating circumstances offer no alterative (i.e. winter weather), then one brief swim is permitted under the 2 year warranty.

To avoid chlorine damage to your wetsuit, we suggest that you limit your time in the pool to around 5 minutes and rinse the suit thoroughly with fresh water immediately afterwards."
