Ladies and gents have 2 questions.

I have been getting varied responses from different bike shops.

My height is 176cm with an 83cm inseam. I have been told to go for a 54 in some cases and others 56.

My old bike was a 52 had to change the stem in my set up but i was told that it was small for me.

Question 2.

Im currently looking at the trek emonda s6  option 2 merida scultara 5000. very similar spec wise. whats your verdicts on these machines.

thanks

A1 : 56cm

A2: Trek, but that's because i like trek. If you take the Merida you can always see Louis Meintjies riding on it in the pro pelaton next year.

An 83 inseam suggests a size 54. Bear in mind that a size 54 in one brand is not exactly the same as a 54 in another brand.

A size 54 is generally a medium. So look out for a medium frame.

Assuming your 52 bike is a small and you are used to that, you will battle to move up to a 56 large, which is 2 sizes up.

Give both sizes a try in both brands and see what's more comfortable.

Do yourself a favour and go for a fit with Aaron Brown or Ergofit. I don't know who is recommended for Ergo in Jhb but Aaron's Cycle Fit comes highly recommended. Spend a few Randelas to save yourself thousands in the long run. Chat to them about which frame would suit you best.

I'm 176m with about the same in seem and i ride a 54 cannondale. As far as i understood, a 56 was a Large?

You might ride a 54cm in a Synapse but would need a 56 in a Supersix, or a large in a Giant TCR but medium in a Defy. Its all about geometries, lengths of top tubes and headtubes, reach etc.

And to add:

At 176 with a 83cm inseam chances are you will be a 54 / med. I have a 84cm inseam and ride a 54. BUT like Cippo says, go for a fit. It makes a HUGE difference.

Hi

Axis is a rebranded Raleigh year 09/10 frame. If you measure from centre of the BB to Seat post tube its a 52cm but the standard measurement is seatpost to steerer tube that will measure at 54cm.

Bike fit is the way to go.

Ok.....that changes it. An Axis is a compact frame, meaning that a size 52 could be equal to a medium or even a large.
