Ja

So strava on mtb ride worked well, shows hr, speed, distance, time... All come up when glancing at watch imidiatly.

Hour and 15 min ride seems like it took 19% battery. But will have to test more. My iphone dropped around 9%

Took watch off charge at 100% last night at 8, and now at 7:29 it's at 78% Inc the strava ride.

For rides below 60km will work great, but longer rides might be issue

Have you tried the run function yet?  either with Strava or maybe even Runkeeper?

I did a small review in the other thread.

So I did about a 1:45 min ride this morning and these are just some pointers for those who are planning on getting it.

Firstly, you don't actually realise at the time but using your watch while you cycle is actually challenging. You basically got to lift both hands off your handlebar in order to navigate through the watch which in the long run will probably improve your skill level but it can be a bit annoying. In saying this though, what you actually need is to have all your data on one screen so that you dont need to navigate the watch. You literally just lift your arm and all the data is there.

Secondly, the built in workout app is pretty poor. It doesn't show average speed, and everything is on separate screens which means you need to navigate while you ride which is annoying.

This morning i ran the workout app concurrently with the cyclemeter app. Now the cyclemeter app is a lot better as your main screen shows all the basics: Speed, Distance, Time, Average speed but it doesn't have heart rate built in. I would have been fine with this but the problem is the moment you run the workout app, no matter what apps you have open, the watch always goes back to the workout app after a certain time. This annoyed the crap outta me because you would then need to navigate through the watch to get back to cyclemeter and it's just difficult.

I had about 56% battery life left after running two apps simultaneously. If you run one app, the battery life should be better.

Other issues I had was with the responsiveness of the screen lacks when your hands are sweaty.

Going forward I would only run the cyclemeter app because all the data is on there. Ideally, it would have been nice for all this to sync to the workout app and I'm sure that will come along with new updates.

My concern though is how Discovery are gonna score you points. Will you still get the 3000 points for a 100km cycle if you use cyclemeter or do you have to use the workout app? Because if the whole system is based on that app, it might be a problem because its a pretty shoddy app.

Also, I would advise paying in that extra cash for the 42mm watch. The icons will be a bit bigger so navigation should be slightly easier especially when on a bike.

I really want one badly... What are your thoughts on paying the extra cash for the sapphire glass screen. Worth it?

I had a look yesterday when I got mine and the price difference seems too great ti justify it.  I also consider whether I will use the iWatch must as I have my Garmin for cycling and Polar heart rate monitor with watch for gym.

3 questions:

1.  Do you need to have your iPhone on (I keep mine off when riding) when using Strava?

2.  Can you use Strava on the watch without the phone with you and when they "connect" after the ride will data be synced?  Or does the watch need the data/gps from the phone for the stats it generates for Strava.

3.  Can you pair the Apple Watch to two iPhone?  I use an old one with a second sim when I ride.  I don't like taking my iPhone 6+ riding.

4.  There is no Garmin connect app for the Watch as yet right?

5.  Will the watch pair with a bluetooth enabled Polar heart rate monitor?  Then I can use the Apple Watch and not bother with the Polar watch.

I am so tempted but with a 1200 points target per week its going to be tough to get 4 weeks in a row......

On the last one... Yes if you want the watch can pair with a Bluetooth hr strap for apps that do t yet read the internal hr

Why do you want to navigate the watch while riding

Also strava and runtastic support the hr so no need to run both apps.

I don't want to navigate the watch and that was entirely the point. The built in workout app forces me to navigate because the data is not on one screen. I'm gonna try the Strava app next time I ride since it now has built in HR and as you said earlier, it has all the basics on one screen. That is what you need.

Thats easy to say - I have tried for over and hour now and i am still confused...

The problem is, that thread has a bunch of other stuff mixed in...

Is the target/week fixed at 1200 or is it individualised?
