The spectrum of cycling enthusiasts is very wide - from hungry race snake to passionate turtle and mid-pack achiever somewhere in the middle.

 

For the race time until cutoff kinda space in time, water should be available at water points

It is part of what is a REQUIREMENT and 'SERVICE PROMISE' to participants.

 

Don't be blinded by your category in the bunch.

 

Water deficit is a failure on the organiser's part

 

AND YES

99er is setting good standards overall

And they can improve

This is particularly relevant given the time of year. Events preceding the Argust attracts a bigger portion of recreational cyclists and should cater for them accordingly. It means that marshalls will probably be out on the route for longer, water points will be used by more riders and the amenities at the finish line should be available for longer. Running out of water is error 101 when it comes to organizing an event like this.

Funny thing, I did see a full water bottle in the ditch next to the road going up Visserhok and though it was tossed intentionally.

Just an FYI, Karma and myself aren't "kids" when it comes to cycling.  I think he beat you quite substantially in Saturday's race and you both started in the same group...

 

Myself, did my first Argust at age 14.  Was sidelined due to a very big injury for the last 3 years.  Starting in the back again you realise how much people suffer when they're not prepared.

Karma - other than the water, what ticked you off so badly?

 

On the water - like grant says, it really is 101 stuff, especially if you have done it for years. But it could be that on the day the person responsible messed up, it's one of those things that can go wrong when 1000's of things need to happen. Something they need to make sure don't happen next year..

Last year beta was 1.18, finish time 2.26 for 108 km. this year its 1.03 with finish time 2.28 for 102km. 

 

Surely if the winner time is 2min SLOWER for 6 km shorter the beta should at least be simular if not higher?

Climbed in 39-25 again. Last year I vowed to swop out my 11-25 for an 11-27. 

But i had forgotten the pain I went through and did it again. 

 

Still it was a fun day in the saddle and got 3:14 G group. 

Will be back next year for sure.

I just found this race alot harder than STCT but beta is less.. #5 HTFU  . . . .
