It won't do that, altitude sickness is a lack of O2 to the brain. This thing just makes it harder to breathe, but there's no filtration of oxygen. Hence no sickness.

I yield to a doctor but what would the application of the mask cause then? To me, most don't apply? Or am I wrong?

I dont think the mask could cause any of those - but some other kinds of lung damage are theoretically possible - mostly due to too high a positive or negative pressure within the chest cavity when using the device - because of the increased airflow resistance the valve creates.
