How robust is the Garmin virb? Cant help but notice the absense of the plastic housing you see the GoPros in. Surely this makes it open to damage in the case if a fall??

I agree. I have both and they both have their advantages but the GP is def tougher. Garmin claim the Virb is waterproof to 1m for 30 minutes(?) but when I look at it I can see the camera through the join in the plastic housing. It doesn't inspire confidence and I think most guys will use them on the road rather than MTB and mount them on handlbars or helmet whereas the GP can be mounted all over the place. Hubbers, would that be a fair assessment?

Ja, that's what I want to do but I can't find the correct mount for it. Do you use the GoPro adapter? Can you please send me a photo of your mount or tell me which one it is?

Cheers

I thought you had a VIRB to mount, why do you want go-pro adapters and what not??

You should have flat mounts and curved mounts for convex surfaces.

As in the pics below, stick the flat one on the left to your windscreen on the inside.

I've had mine for over a year, it gets washed in a basin with water and a scrubbing brush on the body, soft cloth in the lens.

It's been on muddy and wet MTB rides, it's been on my helmet on the motorbike in torrential downpours on the highway.

Can't fault it's robustness, although the white case is stained a bit from red mud.

I want to use my Virb as a dashcam but can't find any suction mounts to mount it on the windscreen. Has anybody any experience with this?

Go to takealot.co.za and search for "Rayne" in action cameras - provided you have a go-pro converter that should work just fine.

Thanks. I had a look and they are just what I want. I just need to choose one.

You should have gotten a flat and curved surface mount with your Garmin VIRB. I am quite sure this is a better option than a suction mount. I used the flat surface mount one on my car's windscreen. It looks like the one in the first pic. The next pic shows the VIRB attached to this mount, but not yet stuck onto the car's windscreen. The pic after that one shows it in place next to the rear-view mirror, neatly out of sight when not in use. Then it is a pic of the VIRB in it's cradle as seen from the passenger side, followed by the view from the driver side. It isn't in the way at all and does not distract your attention from the road. You can use the Garmin VIRB mobile app on your phone to check the alignment of the camera.

Jaco, that looks very neat. I only got a curved mount in the box unless the flat mount is the one used to mount the camera in the box when it arrived. It does have a yellow backing but seems to be part of the package. Is that the one?

Yes - there is a flat and curved mount in the box

Yes, just as V12Man replied in the previous post.

Hi there,

I've recently purchase a Garmin Virb Elite action camera from Takealot....we all know it was on special! LOL

It comes with the standard mounts but I'm currently looking for the handle bar mount, I know everyone is talking about the Gopro converter that came with the device, but I tested it yesterday and it's not stable on the handle bar.

Anyone know where I can look or find any mounts for an affordable price? As far as I know the Virb Elite is going to be discontinued soon.....so I need to get some fast.

Hope you guys can help!

enjoying mine too.best bang for buck ever, really like the time lapse function.

I think the gopro adapter will open all your options, I just used an old reflector bracket for handlebar mount.
