Anyone has one or can give any input.

Looking at buying one and doing a couple of upgrades.

Seems to be in the same league as the Titan Whopper Sport

Out of all my mates who rode/owned fatties, the novelty wears thin quickly,

I was keen my mate has a Surly And I won't lie I was tempted, but they like juicy DDs on a fish,,,,they serve no purpose other than the novelty angle

Jip I understand that is why I do not want to pay too much.

The surge one goes for around R6000

I rode his a few times, there is a fun factor no doubt, my money says that 6k would be better spent on an upgrade/bling,

But as they say the mind wants what it wants

From what I have heard the cheap ones are heavy and not that great.

The decent specced ones are lighter and more fun but, like everyone else has said, when the novelty wear off then you are seriously out of pocket.

Unless you have access to a beach or desert maybe give it more thought.

Seems like a waste of money IMO.

Have had the Whopper Sport for about half a year now and still love it. Use it for my mid week training and shorter rides to get strong for the longer rides. Noticed a huge difference in riding strength.

To be honest I did tweak the bike a bit after getting it though.

Agreed Dipsy. Never saw the point of fatties(other than snow or sand). Rode one the other day and it has confirmed my opinion. That's why I call them Fad Bikes.

Rode a Mongoose Argus from Jan 2015 - June 2016 whilst waiting for my Silverback double scoop.

Was absolutely hooked on the first ride. Different strokes for different folks. Its a year later and I am still using my fatty as my primary bike.

Received my Silverback Double Scoop after selling my Mongoose Argus and added Rockshox Bluto fork to it, this was even better despite increasing the weight from 16kg - 17kg.

I ride my Silverback as a primary bike, do most of my training on it, have done most of my racing on it irrespective of whether its on the sand or XC its an awesome bike.

You get used to the fatty and it does build strength and stamina. There is no reason it can't be a primary bike.

Having said that if you are looking for a fairly good secondary bike and you can afford the R6500 for the Surge its a worthy purchase.

The bike comes with 3x8 acera and can be upgraded as the rear hub is a free hub. Unfortunately its a straight steer head tube and thus you will have to source a sus fork if you want one, but its not necessary for a secondary bike.

I have sold a lot of fatties and have access to plenty of spares for them. R6500 is a good deal.

I have a large one left in stock if you're interested and can PM me.

You almost had me convinced on the viability of having a fatboke as a primary bike, then the sales pitch at the end.......

That is amazing! it made it possible to warp time. Any stock tips that you can give from the future?

No doubt a fatbike is a niche bike - but nothing else can fill that niche. If you look at how many people drive cars that will never be used for their intended purpose, you will find it difficult to understand all the "logic" around a fatbike. I promise you that you will go places you have never been before on a fatty.
