Grogs Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 It was about this time of the evening that I found out - I was outside cleaning the swimming pool, and my wife (in her study on Facebook) shouted out of the window that Burry Stander was dead. I got hoendervleis and went cold - as I have now while typing this - and ran into the house shouting "bull****" over and over again. He could have gone on to do amazing things - you can only win the Epic so many times until bigger things beckon. Think of what ex-mountain bikers have done in the Tour (Cadel Evans, Peter Sagan, Jean-Christophe Peraud, to name a few). RIP africanmtbkid.

BrandonF_ Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Me, my wife, and(soon to be) one year old boy were on our way to first ("Home-Group", "Cellgroup", "Church-Group"), meeting of the year,...on the N1 turning off to Jip de Jager,..when my Facebook surfing wife broke the news,..I was obviously totally "in denial,"....and then it struck.

At friends place just after 5pm, we were going to meet Burry and Cherise in the Berg with the crew from All Out Adventures the very next day for a long weekend of trails, braais and a cover shoot.Ended up going through anyway because we reckoned that's what he would have expected and it couldn't be a better dedication to him and his family. Will never forget that.
