Directly from the bike computer, via the manufacturer's app/site?

Since I am going to export the file and upload to Strava anyway, and Discovery syncs with Strava, for me its not too important; but if you do have the option I'm sure it would be very convenient.

Via Strava makes more sense. Thanks.

Trying to figure out where all the website issues come from.

Just logged on to the Bryton site, downloaded my latest ride and got the report within 3 mins. Then loaded it onto Strava which was another 2 mins.

about 2 years ago...after a website update..the bryton site lost all my data...luckily I upload to the bryton and then save the tcx and upload that to strava..so I lost nothing...but If I was relying on the bryton website only I would have been very pissed. I went through a back and forth process of trying to get it back...just because..but they sort of lost interest in me and thats why when i bought a running watch..I bought a garmin.

I've got a Rider 50 - a few years old.

Its been dead for a while and I've been trying to get it repaired.

Eventually the SA agents told me they arent supporting it anymore. I got hold of bryton international and they told me to buy a new bryton

I understand your feelings but a GPS is ultimately a very small electronic device which, after 1000km's of rattling away in the wind and rain, will eventually give up the ghost. Nothing lasts forever.

The rider 50 was discontinued when the 60 came out(my 40 is also discontinued, that's life), it would probably not have been economically viable fixing your 50 anyway unless it was a battery. Doesn't sound that way though.

Garmin would have not faired much better, they would probably have offered a refurbished unit or discount of off a new unit.

This is a bit unfair, when your TV packs up after 5 years you may try to get it repaired but when told it can't be do you then boycott "Samsung/LG/Sony" or do you accept it and buy a new one,?

How old is "a few years old" BTW?

Yes. Had a Ryder 40 for a couple of years now and it has been abused repeatedly on several continents, road and MTB and operated flawlessly, regularly outlasts and outperforms my race partners Garmin 500 of the same vintage.  How the respective replacements of these two units compare in terms of features I don't know. I just download .tcx files to my laptop then upload those into Strava -  FitTrack and Discovery etc then just link automatically to Strava so really not a hassle.

I know that you used to be able to trade in old Edge units at the argus expo at the garmin stall and they gave you massive discounts on new units. Thats discontinued working or not working units.

Bryton Int. gave him the finger and told him to buy a new one.

I have two bryton units the 50 and the 35. Except for having reception issues once or twice before (entering knysna forest on K2c seems to be a no satelite point) and when the 50 has been on a while and in direct sunlight i can't see jack on the screen. (emailed them and got told its the battery getting too hot, and no further communication) I ahve had no other issues.

But i am currently actively researching devices for myself (probably edge 520) and something for the wife which might be gps watch (polar m400 current top contender).

The bryton watches are butt ugly so never even considered them.

It hasn't launched yet, but something really cool if you're in the market for a new head unit.

You still can get a massive discount on a new unit if your old one packs up and is not under warranty.

Just an observation, but those that say yes to Bryton seems to have started on Bryton. Can't remember seeing anyone saying that their Garmin was rubbish so they decided to go to Bryton.(Appologies if that missed it). Simple really then, Bryton is good if you haven't tried Garmin.
