Hey guys.

I'm looking at going dual-sus, so I am faced with 2 possible options. Sell the frame and carry parts over to dual-sus frame or sell as whole and buy complete bike.

My bike is a bit of a frankenstein and lost of the components are fairly cheap (long story about crooked LBS et all)

Frame: 2012 Scott Scale 940 Hard tail

Fork: Suntour XCM

Wheelset: Alex DP21 on Shimano hubs, tubeless with Rocket Rons

Crank: Shimano Deore

Front DR: Shimano

Rear DR: SRAM x9

Shifters: SRAM X9

Brakes: Avid Exiler Avid 5 (yugh)

Stem: Spez

Handlebar: Spez

Grips: Spez

Seat: Spez Phenon

Seatpost: Syncros

If I sell the frame only, I'll def look at upgrading the fork, so will be able to sell that to recoup some costs. Possibly wheel set as well.

The bike is in okay condition considering its age. Regularly serviced, but has some cable rub and the odd scratch. Drivetrain is like new, but cranks are worse for wear

What say ye bikehub? How much can I look at realistically getting for this bike?

My rough formula for selling a bike is:

Purchase price x 70%

Less 5% of purchase price per year

Add 50% of cost of any upgrades

Less cost of replacement of worn parts (chain, cassette, chain rings, cables, brake pads) (assume everything needs replacement, regardless of seller's opinion).

Less cost of servicing moving parts (fork, shock, pivots, BB and headset) (assume everything needs servicing, regardless of seller's opinion)

If it's a 26er marathon or XC bike, break it up in parts to sell.

My apologies, it's a 29er

If I take that formula into consideration, I should be able to get around 2k for it

Much rather keep it as a show piece then

I have a 2011 scott scale HT. Recently upgraded to a Merida dual sus, but instead of going through the effort to sell the Scott for peanuts, I kept it to play around with the kids. And its also nice to ride it every now and again to remind me how lekker the new bike goes!

You'll get a lot more than R2k. Probably double that.

The frame is a pretty decent frame. Scott really makes good HT-Alu frames - light and durable. But selling the frame alone - unfortunately - won't give you the return you deserve in my opinion.

As a package - this should get atleast R4k
