Indoor Trainer Too Loud

Hey Ya'll,

So quick question. I bought an indoor trainer yesterday and popped my mountain bike on. Goodness is it loud. Probably too loud to use. Obviously because of the mountain bike tires.

So i'm considering getting a training wheel(the blue ones). But I wanted to know. Would slicks be a better options. Since im doing so much road riding anyways. Would slicks not be as loud as regular MTB tires.

Also hope I posted this in the correct forum.

I put one of my old bikes on the trainer, permanently (with a proper blue training tyre). So I don't have to keep on swopping wheels. If you don't have a 2nd bike to leave on the trainer it becomes a bit  more of a mission.

What surface are you using the trainer on? Wooden floors seem to amplify the sound. I use mine on a soft sponge surface which seems to dampen the sound. I've never tried MTB tired but i found using my road bike that the soft sponge seems to make it quieter.

Jus a tip for those of you with slicks/road bike tyres.

Use a double layer of insulation tape on the contact patch of the tyre. You can use your regular road tyre with insulation tape and completely avoid wear. And effort. And it's cheap.

Ive also reduced noise by placing the IDT on a double folded bath towel so it absorbs the vibrations that seem to be amplified by the floor.
