2016 motivation for getting lighter and faster

aaaaaah. Sitting in the chair at the office, wondering why I didn't start this sooner.

Got up at 4 for a 1h15 ride around the greenbelt. Left a bit later than I'd hoped as my light funked out, so I had to search for my older one. But all in all - a great start to the day.

Good on you captain! Again tomorrow ...

Goodstuff, I love getting out in the mornings.

But had to miss out on a good morning as my old man is back in hospital and we had to rush him in this morning at 2am. Just need to carefully balance the next few days...

Eish man, never good. Mine got home yesterday. He's doing well, by all accounts.

It's also the first time I've eaten breakfast before work in.... ever.

Kudos!. Didn't feel like going spinning this morning so set my alarm for 4:45 to go for a spin around the hood before work - the intention was there - the will however was not. I got up, but just couldn't get going - How you guys do it I don't know.

Did bring my bike to work, hopefully get in a ride after work to make up for the slacking off.

That's just it... I normally don't do it! Rolling over and hitting snooze is my standard response pretty much all the time, unless I'm going to Paarl or Jonkers etc with my riding buddies. And even then, we only wake up at 6.

This is (hopefully) the start of a newer approach to it. Wiffie and gremlin were also very chuffed with the eggs on sourdough toast that I whipped up before showering...

I haven't read the whole thread yet so I'm not sure if it has been mentioned, but I'd like to add my 2cents about motivation, I apologize if this is off topic.

For you one to stay motivated you need to see results. ie: my goal is to loose 10kg in 3 weeks (hypothetical). What do I need to do to reach it .... this, that, this, that etc etc. The problem you have here is that what you have done in actual fact is you have set a long term goal in losing 10kg in 3 weeks. When you lose say 2 kg in your first week you are already demotivated because 10/3=3.3 and not 2.

My advice is set short term goals, but remember the big picture ie: I want to get my average up by 0.5km/h every 2 weeks for the next 3 months, by the end of the 3 months you could well be 5-6km/h faster on average, or I want to lose 2kg of weight every week over a 5 week period, what am I going to do? This , that, this, that etc etc. I just think it keeps that "yes the hard work paid off" factor a little bit more in your reach.

And remember to reward yourself when you reach goals!

Yeah, I'm talking my loop's overall time as a gauge of how well I'm improving. Time elapsed. As I get faster, I tack on more distance. That's the plan, at least.

Oh - and as per Uni - my reward is a few bits and pieces for the fiets.

It really takes time to get into the routine of getting up for a ride. Firstly you have to get a good sleep, and the first 2-4 weeks will be challenging but once you break through this it becomes easy. [well not soo much in winter]

yeah. That's it. The sleep time change. If you set the alarm for 4, but still go to sleep at 11, you are going to see your arse.

Just DON'T reward yourself with food or a cheat day, at least that's my mere 2c's worth ....

my happy food...

Dark Chocolate

Yes, as you guessed, dark chocolate in undoubtedly the ultimate comfort food making millions happy across the globe. Dark chocolate contains high levels of phenylalanine which is known to be an effective anti-depressant since it enhances the production of mood-elevating chemicals such as serotonin and dopamine in the brain. It also creates phenylethylamine (PEA) – the same chemical your brain creates when you feel like you’re falling in love, and encourages your brain to release endorphins, making you feel happier. What’s more, dark chocolate is also high in vitamin and minerals such as potassium, copper, magnesium, and iron that boost your health. Do you need any more excuses to gorge on your favorite dark chocolate bar?

I admire people who can 'cheat' or reward themselves with something like that, me no chance once I'm off the bandwagon I'm off so I don't bother.
